“We fly lots, & we say that we shouldn't,” says @DV_Jonas, a transport geographer at @ucl & the first author of the latest study. “We are hypocrites.” Climate leadership means walking the walk, academics need to put their house in order & lead by example nature.com/articles/d41586-0…

Hey Global North, How about instead of preparing our kids for a future within a system that is destined to collapse, we face up to reality, apologise to our kids & work like hell to adapt & build a future they - & all the world’s children - at least stand a chance of surviving?

I am in West London where every 10 minutes a helicopter is flying past. It is causing me increasing amounts of rage - it's very loud. @BBCNews is this one yours? This picture suggests so. What's going on here that you could possibly need to keep flying round?

Here, every single day brings multiple helicopters past. They can be every hour or even more frequently when the flight path is like the one shown, circling around the area. The noise is massively damaging to mental health, causing a constant level of stress.

Occasionally it's the Air Ambulance. They're great. But mostly it seems to be charter flights. I was really hoping that with @RishiSunak's utterly destructive and selfish use of helicopters ending with his govt, that this constant source of stress would decrease.

What if we cleaned the air and all it did was stop the current pandemic and all future airborne pandemics.

Final European interview done for the film linking fires and fascism. About 50 people have been interviewed and the edit will begin soon. Does anyone know a narrative editor who could help me? The project is crowdfunded, so there is very little budget: chuffed.org/project/109604-f…

The “your cause” is often used by people in the legal profession and is very telling that they really have not understood the severity & ramifications of the climate crisis. The rule of law will *not* survive a +2 degrees world.

I tested several DIY portable air cleaners to see how they performed in an active classroom environment. My focus was on PM2.5 measurements. Here's what I found, and how it's influencing my advocacy for my own kids and beyond ... 🧵

This is wild. European countries import coffee and cocoa from Africa and then re-export at an average 300% mark-up. This tactic was widely used by Europeans during the colonial period and it continues to be used today. tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1…

Get rid of the whole sorry lot of them and replace with binding citizens (and people’s) assemblies, where policies aren’t enacted based on what will win the next popularity /power contest.

The famous Santorini fava bean is under threat by the #ClimateCrisis. Drought conditions mean a small packet now costs 18 euro. Before mass starvation, humanity will experience malnutrition. Because only the 1% will afford to feed themselves with nutritious foods. A dear friend who lives on Santorini brought me this precious small bag despite the limited harvest. Santorini fava is prized for its flavour. It has been cultivated on the island for 3,500 years. But it looks like this will be coming to an abrupt end soon #foodapocalypse

I’m not sure there is anything anyone can say to make people face this now. Intelligent people see catastrophic warnings from scientists as hysteria. If you are calm it conveys a lack of urgency. If you are fearful and panicked - which is appropriate - people think you are crazy. Scientific reality is being ignored - with soon to be globally catastrophic consequences itv.com/news/2019-11-05/scie…

The @imperialcollege shiny new White City campus is in @LBHF. It would be nice if community involvement around this source of air and noise pollution was a thing…
I live in @LBHF in London. We have a problem with helicopters, sometimes every 10 mins, thundering overhead and causing a noise nuisance. They're not emergency helicopters. @JeremyClarkson's helicopter flew overhead from his farm today. I wonder why they avoid the richer @RBKC?

The racism behind chatGPT that we aren't talking about... This year, I learned that students use chatGPT because they believe it helps them sound more respectable. And I learned that it absolutely does not work. A thread. 🧵

Remember that time Goldilocks found the porridge that was just right and then decided to swap it for some stupidly hot porridge that would burn her face and make her sick and fuck everything up?
