Patrick Stewart was, like many of the greatest British artists of the 20th Century, a working class boy who became a world-class artist thanks to a public arts education made possible by Post War social democracy. He never forgot it.

Recently had a blissful time listening to Patrick Stewart’s memoir: wise, honest, reflective without ever taking himself too seriously. Last week I revisited his Extras episode, still one of the funniest guest-star cameos ever.
What a huge, huge loss. Too many credits to list, but transcending all that was his warmth and decency. Whether his characters were voyaging in deep space or tutoring mutants, that always shone through. RIP.
"A legend. A stone cold legend."

A colossal loss of an absolute acting titan. His memoir, Making It So, was already an essential read — now even moreso. There won’t be a dry eye in the house when Doomsday’s credits roll.
Rest easy, Captain. Rest easy, Professor. Rest easy, Sir Patrick Stewart.

A difficult start to the week. Didn’t expect to be writing this less than 24 hours after buzzing to hear Bauza in the excellent Forgotten Island. What a voice. What a talent. What a man, by all accounts. That’s not all, folks — it’s just see you, later. Rest easy, doc.
