We're at a point where I can no longer deny that both D1 and D2 are two of the best games I've ever played. Consistently imperfect, yet unique and unmatched by no other, Destiny is a franchise with limitless potential. That potential could've manifested in Destiny 3.
Read the full blog at bung.ie/d2_may_21_2026 For almost twelve years, we have had the joy and honor to explore the Destiny universe with you all. Through all the ups and downs, surprises and triumphs, building Destiny alongside our players has been a monumental privilege. While our love for Destiny 2 has not changed, it has become clear that after The Final Shape, we have reached the time for our shared worlds, and Destiny, to live beyond Destiny 2. As our focus turns towards a new beginning for Bungie, we will begin work incubating our next games. To that end, on June 9, 2026, we will release the final live-service content update for Destiny 2 to begin that new journey as a studio. Though active development may be concluding, we will ensure that Destiny 2 remains playable, just as the original Destiny is today. Many changes in this final update will aim to ensure that Destiny 2 is a welcoming place for players to return to. We’re proud of Destiny 2, the places it took us, and the legacy it has created. Because of you all, our universe is vast, built on years of shared stories, adventures, and victories. From the Cosmodrome to the Pale Heart to the Lawless Frontier, we have forged life-long memories and friendships with you all. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who made that journey with us. From the deepest part of our hearts, thank you, and we'll see you in the stars.

Pretty mixed after a couple hours. The onboarding is pretty bad, and it feels like it's a button-spammy game because it's so heavily predicated on constantly blocking, parrying, attacking etc. Weapons are cool, but the game just feels so messy, even if satisfying in its feel.
The opening of Phantom Blade Zero feels pretty disjointed and weird and not the best introduction to combat - in part because animations are so flashy and fast. Kinda makes it hard to tell what your inputs are doing, but I see the vision, so I am curious to see where it goes.

Also the issue with combat, I think, is that it feels almost like it's playing itself. This is probably more to do with the flashy animations, but without enemies respawning once they're down, you can just brute force it without any real pacing or intended experience.

Maybe it's cool that there's less guidance and you can just play and explore almost as you wish, but the exploration is feeling incredibly weak so far too. It's literally just like 'oh there's a path over there, maybe I can find something'. Idk, still early but yeah, mixed.

Uncharted 3 launched 15 years ago today: 11.1.11. We announced both U3 and Skyrim (11.11.11) at VGA 10. I still remember worrying they’d pick the same release date.

NG+ in Onimusha is super weird in that none of your weirdly grindy, stat-related upgrades (e.g. health, damage etc.) don't carry over. What's weirder is I'm having to do even more grinding for the respective trophies despite all side content being done. Really unbalanced.
Okay, so turns out you *can* start NG+ on any difficulty with carried over progress - that's great! Wish there were some extras to collect and unlock so I'd imagine it's not that interesting outside of Carnage mode - which I have no interest in lol - but still nice as an option.

With stuff like this, it really makes me question if the devs did enough testing as I'm not sure why you'd want players running around aimlessly to get the last currencies and resources they need. You're essentially grinding for trophies alone as half of it doesn't carry to NG+.

If Onimusha: WOTS slimmed down progression to more meaningful upgrades along with faster skill unlocks, reduced its open world focus and side content density, had an NG+ with extra stuff playable on any difficulty, and *maybe* had another weapon, it might be a 10/10 for me.

I said last night that with some adjustments/inclusions, Onimusha could've been a 10. Generally, that's still true and I do like what the game is, but ending it like this almost makes me want to turn the 8 into a 7. And I hate that lol Still, it's decent, but yeah, not perfect.
Onimusha's last boss is cool for a 'final challenge', but the constant cutscene pauses and the fact that it's such a spike in difficulty kinda puts me off tbh. Even if I've enjoyed it, I kinda wanted to move on - so then you drop to Story mode and it's insanely easy...

Anyway, time to go play Phantom Blade Zero - hopefully that'll give me more of the action genre I like and isn't just another Soulslike in all but name. Oh wait...

PS: To be clear, I don't know if I have an issue with the 'Story' difficulty's existence. But I do hate how easy modes seem to miss the mark. Expedition 33 felt like this where imo that game is hard to consistently parry on Normal. Easy is then just a massive drop.

I feel like, if you're going to do 'Story' or 'Easy' modes w/ no Hard mode out the gate - or your baseline difficulty is meant to be hard - don't just ignore having something in between, or at least give more options. Alternatively, just make the game for the people it's for.
