🇫🇷FITCH WARNS FRANCE FACES POTENTIAL CREDIT RATING DOWNGRADE
Fitch Ratings warns that France's A+ credit rating is under pressure from rising government debt, weak economic growth and political instability.
France's proposed 2027 budget targets a deficit of 5% of GDP, but Fitch questions the government's ability to stabilize public finances.
Key risks:
🔸Rising debt and borrowing costs
🔸Weak economic growth
🔸Political fragmentation complicating spending cuts
Fitch warns that failure to reduce debt could trigger a negative outlook, while a substantial further increase could lead to a credit rating downgrade.
France's current outlook remains stable.

Dear friends, during some recent medical examinations, the doctors found a small, localized nodule in my lung. It was detected at a very early stage and is well-localized. The doctors believe that it is best to intervene, so, following their advice, I have decided to undergo surgery to remove it. The operation is already scheduled to take place in the coming days. I thank you for your spiritual closeness and entrust myself to your prayers.

🇫🇷 FRENCH DEBT CRISIS COULD POSE GREATER RISKS THAN GREECE, COMMERZBANK WARNS
Commerzbank warns that France's debt problems could pose greater systemic risks to the eurozone than Greece's sovereign debt crisis.
Eurozone public debt now averages 90% of GDP, up from 80% in 2009, while appetite for fiscal reform has weakened.
However, stronger banks, French institutions and ECB intervention tools reduce the risk of contagion.
Commerzbank does not expect a new sovereign debt crisis, but warns the risks are rising.

I don’t know if I would go all in on the youth side of the argument on entitlements when the country is getting older not younger. The populist policy proposals might be insane and bad but not dumb in terms of electoral politics.

NEW KFILE looking at James Talarico’s record on policing in 2020. Talarico told a youth group then calling for defunding police that it was "rich" that "defund the police" was "off limits" in political debate when Texas had spent decades defunding public schools and health services. Said, "Our system of policing is deeply broken. We must replace it with something new and something better," and asked about instead sending "highly-trained crisis interventionists," some for some emergencies.
In June 2020, he donated $2,500 to the Austin Justice Coalition, a group calling for defunding police, a donation he later defended. He also criticized Gov. Abbott's proposal to cut revenue to cities like Austin over local decisions to reduce police funding. In 2022, Talarico said that if the country took "just half of what we spent on wars, prisons, and policing" and spent it on education, health care, and jobs, "we could make prisons obsolete."
Talarico's campaign says he "did not call for and does not support defunding the police" and has voted to send billions of dollars to local law enforcement.
