The attack on 25 July at Berlin Pride is a stark reminder that the right to celebrate who you are, safely and openly, cannot be taken for granted. Pride was born as a protest, and in many places it still has to be one. The EU stands with the LGBTIQ+ community, in Germany and everywhere. Defending the right to live openly, without fear, is not a seasonal gesture, it is a continuous commitment. Hate does not get the last word.

A world map of countries with universal healthcare. Universal healthcare has existed in different forms for more than a century. Germany created the worldโ€™s first national health insurance system under Otto von Bismarck in 1883, while the United Kingdom launched the National Health Service in 1948. Today, countries provide universal coverage through various approaches, including national health services, social insurance programs, single-payer systems, and regulated private insurance models. As shown on this map, universal healthcare is now widespread across most of Europe, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, and much of Latin America. Meanwhile, many countries in Africa and parts of Asia continue working to expand access. The United States remains the only high-income country without a universal healthcare system. Universal healthcare does not always mean medical care is completely free. Many systems include copayments, deductibles, or mandatory contributions, while private hospitals and insurance companies often operate alongside public programs. The core idea is that everyone can access essential healthcare without facing overwhelming financial hardship.

Every young European deserves a home. Unfortunately, that is not the case. The cascading effects of these are large, less babies, less freedom to develop, and less space to make hobby projects that turn into startups. We need to build more homes.
