I’m incredibly proud to share that Isabel Danstrom successfully defended her PhD in Neuroscience on Friday 🎓
Her recent work in Human Brain Mapping & Brain Stimulation shows how morphology and pulse width shape brain circuit connectivity in the cingulum bundle.
Thoughtful, generous, and an outstanding mentor—congratulations, Dr. Danstrom!

we need to keep retelling the stories of our collective progress and in particular how that progress has been facilitated and sustained by the culture and funding opportunities afforded by the BRAIN Initiative. Write your elected officials!
I'm thrilled and humbled to announce our new paper, out today in Nature Mental Health! nature.com/articles/s44220-0… Huge congrats to @Xiaoxu_Fan_0512 on her beautiful work elucidating neural underpinnings of depression! [1/8]
Enormous thanks to @BCMNeurosurgery for their generous support!
This work was possible because of the tremendous contributions of amazing collaborators @bcmhouston @UTSWMedCenter @drpouratian @MaddieMocchi @Jiayang_Xiao @eleonorabartoli Joshua Adkinson, @neuronush Wayne Goodman, Sanjay Mathew, and many others! [7/8]
Big thanks to our funders and supporters!! @NIMHgov @USBrainAlliance @bcm_neurosci @BCMFromtheLabs @UTSWNeurosurg And enormous gratitude to the patients and their families, who make all this work possible. [8/8]

7/8 To test causality of the dACC in affective biasing, we applied direct electrical stimulation to the structure at a therapeutic frequency of 130 Hz during the viewing and rating of emotional faces in N=13, and showed stimulation-induced positive bias in evaluation of faces.
8/8 Big thanks to Baylor College of Medicine, Department of Neurosurgery, collaborators, patients, and funders (NIH K01-MH116364; NIH R01-MH127006, AFSP:YIG-0-015-13) @NIH, @NIMHgov, @NINDSnews, @afspnational, @BCM_Neurosurgery, @BCM_neurosci, @BCMFromtheLabs for the support!
