If your values only live in a handbook, they aren't leading anyone yet. People follow what you do when things get tense, not what's on page three. Tomorrow's article is about closing that gap. What would your team say you value?
Tomorrow morning I'm publishing a short piece on the moment values stop being words and start becoming culture. It comes down to what you reward and what you quietly let slide. Come read it with your Monday coffee.

A values plaque is easy. Living it on a normal, forgettable week is the hard part, because that's when people are actually paying attention. Think of one value your team would say you truly practice. Monday's article goes deeper.

Most teams don't learn their values from the wall in the break room. They learn them by watching what happens on an ordinary afternoon when work gets busy. Tomorrow's article is about that gap. What does your team see when nobody's performing?

Most organizations have values on a wall somewhere. Good words. Good intentions. New article tomorrow.

This Halloween, the only thing haunting your leadership team shouldn't be an unresolved decision. Costumes come off tomorrow. The vague statement you made about circling back around on Monday? That one sticks around. Pick one spooky open loop today and actually close it — your people will thank you more than any candy.

How has AI affected your team's workflow? How has AI affected your team's wellbeing?

A bot will help you be more efficient with tasks, but it doesn't remove the human connection that you need to have with your team.

Ask your team, where are you feeling overwhelmed in your job and how can I help?

In a world full of AI shortcuts, being seen is still what makes someone stay. Start with the person you haven't checked on lately.

If the tool finished the task and someone still looks overwhelmed, the work isn't done. Output is not the same as care. Check on the person before you close the ticket. That is how you lead when software is fast.

Leadership in an AI world still starts with a person, not a prompt. Tools can draft the plan and summarize the meeting. They cannot care about who left the room feeling overwhelmed. That part is still on you. kccupp.com/articles/your-tea…

Notice who on your team is carrying more than they can hold. AI won't tap you on the shoulder when someone is drowning in work.

Great leaders find tools that help their team be successful, not just make the organization go faster.

AI got faster this week. Your people still need you to see them. Speed without attention just burns people out. Look up from the tools long enough to check on your team.

Another AI tool won't fix a team that feels unseen. You can automate the busywork and still leave people lonely in the work. Start by noticing who has gone quiet. Start by making time to connect and care first.

Your dashboard can look fine while someone on your team is disappearing. Charts don't show who stopped speaking up in meetings. Notice the person, not just the chart. That is the real scoreboard.

Well-being is not a perk list. It's whether your people can still be human after they clock out. AI can clear the inbox and still leave someone empty. Notice that before you add another benefit. kccupp.com/articles/your-tea…

Building an organization fast is easy to measure, but becoming someone your team trust takes time. Don't implement tools that don't first take into consideration the well-being of your team.

A goal without margin is a stress machine. You can hit the number and still lose the people who got you there. Build the target, then leave room for the humans chasing it. Margin is how the work stays human.
