Friends, a pet is not an adequate substitute for another person—and I say that as a dog lover!
We’re the animal that speaks, and that’s where human contact is made. “Cor ad cor loquitur,” says St. John Henry Newman’s famous motto. “Heart speaks to heart.”
You’re not going to find that with a dog or with your computer screen. You can only find it in conversation with another.

On his fourth day in hospital, Pope Leo XIV's doctors say new blood tests and a chest X-ray confirm "the steady improvement in his overall condition.”
The Pope continues with respiratory physiotherapy, and he is carrying out his "normal daily activities entirely independently" as he recovers from surgery on Tuesday.

Colorado calls its preschool program "universal," but Catholic preschools say they're being excluded because of their faith.
After a three-year legal battle, the U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to hear the case.

Colorado’s "universal" preschool program isn’t really universal. Some families were shut out of the program just because they chose to send their children to a Catholic preschool—denying them access to the same funds available to everyone else. Now, St. Mary v. Roy is headed to the Supreme Court. Watch to learn more⬇️

Archbishop Golka's favorite local restaurant might remain a secret 🤫 but we at least got him to share what's for dinner!
For Archbishop Golka, a good meal is really about the people gathered around the table. But meatballs definitely help.

A "holy" night on Chicago’s South Side?
On August 11, 2026, the White Sox honored Chicago native and lifelong fan Pope Leo XIV with a papal mitre giveaway that grew from 2,500 hats to more than 40,000 for a sellout crowd at Rate Field. They also incorporated the Mass' "peace be with you" into the evening.
The celebration mixed the Catholic faith, fandom, and Chicago pride.
