81 years ago, the @UN Charter came into force, with international law at its core.
The UK believes international law must apply equally and fairly to all.
That’s why we back @DapoAkandeLaw for the @CIJ_ICJ: an exceptional, independent lawyer who shares those values.

Three years ago, Hamas terrorists carried out the worst attack on Israel in its history, murdering 1,200 innocent people.
I offer my deep condolences to those who lost loved ones. I send my solidarity to the people of Israel on the anniversary of this terrible act.

The UK condemns the attack on @WFP-contracted vehicles in South Kordofan, killing a driver delivering life-saving aid. This is the latest in a pattern of attacks on aid operations in Sudan.

The latest @UNEP report reinforces why every fraction of a degree matters.
The UK remains committed to the Paris Agreement and the 1.5°C goal, while acting urgently to cut emissions and build resilience to climate change.
Global warming is set to cross 1.5°C, pushing climate risks and impacts to increasingly dangerous heights, a new UNEP report warns.
Predicted impacts include extreme weather and threats to human health and economies.
Action now can still limit the magnitude and duration of the peak and preserve the possibility of returning to or below 1.5°C through an ‘overshoot, peak, and decline’ pathway

Today I have been working closely with our @FCDOGovUK teams in the UK, Nepal and China who are responding to the catastrophic flooding on the Nepal-China border.
We’re supporting British nationals & have immediately allocated £5 million in humanitarian support for Nepal.
My experience as a humanitarian profoundly shaped my understanding of aid work.
Those I worked alongside were practical, resourceful and brave as they saved and transformed lives.
Humanitarian workers can only do this if they can operate safely. We call for their protection.

Proud to see the BBNJ Agreement enter into force for the UK, building on commitments made at last year's @UN Ocean Conference.
Thank you @LewisPugh for explaining how, by working together, we can deliver meaningful change to protect the world's ocean and life within it.
The ocean is one of our planet’s greatest treasures. From today, a landmark international agreement to protect it comes into force in the UK.
This is an important step towards protecting at least 30% of the world’s oceans by 2030.

Many thanks Foreign Secretary @Ed_Miliband for your support for my candidacy for election to the International Court of Justice. It is an honour to be nominated by the UK and by so many national groups of the Permanent Court of Arbitration @PCA_CPA from across the world.
The UK is proud to support Professor Dapo Akande’s candidacy for election to the International Court of Justice (ICJ), reflecting our commitment to international justice and the rule of law. With deep expertise in international law and global experience in its application, Dapo would be a huge asset to the Court. He has received the most nominations of any candidate.
The ICJ plays a vital role in helping states resolve disputes peacefully through international law. If elected, Professor Akande would join the Court’s 15 judges, who serve nine-year terms.
1.2 million people in Gaza still face significant food shortages.
Israel must fulfil its commitments under the Comprehensive Plan by ensuring unimpeded humanitarian access.
We are also deeply concerned by reports of Hamas blocking aid operations. This is unacceptable.

It represents a significant step in global efforts to protect the ocean.
Preventing sexual violence in conflict has been a long-term UK priority.
We are seeing an appalling surge in sexual violence globally. As @YvetteCooperMP had said, we must confront it with renewed urgency.
The UNSC must take action to tackle impunity and prevent such crimes.
