𝐒𝐀𝐅𝐄𝐆𝐔𝐀𝐑𝐃𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐊𝐄𝐍𝐘𝐀’𝐒 𝐁𝐋𝐀𝐂𝐊 𝐑𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐎𝐒 Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) Director General, Prof. @ErustusKanga , today hosted the Ol Pejeta Conservancy (OPC) Board of Directors, led by Chairman Mr Philip Coulson and former Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Francis Olekaparo at KWS headquarters for consultations on rhino management and measures to safeguard the conservancy’s rhino population. Discussions focused on addressing ecological pressures within the Ol Pejeta Rhino Sanctuary, which has exceeded its carrying capacity, and the need for timely interventions to decongest the sanctuary and secure additional space for rhinos and other wildlife. The engagement forms part of KWS’s ongoing oversight and collaboration with conservation partners to strengthen rhino management, safeguard animal welfare and sustain Kenya’s rhino recovery. #ThrivingWildlifeForever #WildlifeConservation

Kenya’s network of protected areas spans an extraordinary ecological spectrum which reflects our leadership in biodiversity conservation. From the dense canopy of Kakamega Forest, Kenya’s only tropical rainforest to the rugged vistas of Malka Mari National Park, our terrestrial sanctuaries preserve vital habitats. We remain keen on protecting specialized ecosystems like Saiwa Swamp National Park, a refuge for the endangered Sitatunga antelope and Kisite-Mpunguti Marine Park, which safeguards vibrant coral reefs along our southern coast. Through the stewardship of the @KWSKenya , the @Min_TourismKE remains steadfast in combating poaching, restoring habitats, and diversifying our tourism offerings. We invite travelers from near and far to explore the natural wonders that make Kenya an unparalleled destination. #VisitKakamega #OriginofWonder

Over the past few days, the 13 young African filmmakers taking part in the KWS–Nuru Storytelling Bootcamp have been out in Nairobi National Park and Nairobi Safari Walk, working in teams to capture wildlife and conservation stories. With filming now complete, they are reviewing their footage, putting the pieces together and shaping the stories they set out to tell, with guidance from their mentors. 3 short films are taking shape, each offering a different perspective on wildlife, the people who protect it and the experiences Kenya’s parks offer. All that remains is to bring the stories to the screen. We look forward to sharing the finished films and celebrate the work of these emerging filmmakers. 🇰🇪 🇺🇬🇹🇿🇸🇸🇨🇩 #ThisIsOurWild #ExploreExperienceConserve

𝐑𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐘𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐎𝐆𝐄𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐈𝐍 𝐋𝐀𝐖 𝐄𝐍𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐂𝐄𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐒𝐄𝐂𝐔𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 Wildlife crime is a serious national and international security threat, with poaching and trafficking networks increasingly linked to terrorism financing, money laundering and other organised crimes. Combating these networks requires wildlife enforcement to be recognised as an integral part of the global security agenda. Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 10th Wildlife Inter-Regional Enforcement Conference, convened by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and Kenya’s Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), KWS Director General Prof. @ErustusKanga called for sustained international support, intelligence sharing, coordinated investigations and effective prosecution to dismantle criminal networks and recover illicit assets. Prof. Kanga reaffirmed KWS' commitment to strengthening partnerships and working with the 42 countries represented at the conference to translate collaboration into tangible results. He called on all countries and partners to move beyond commitments to decisive action, strengthen cross-border cooperation and ensure that wildlife criminals, their financiers and beneficiaries are brought to justice. Together, we must protect our wildlife, safeguard communities and deny organised criminal networks the proceeds of their activities. #PartnershipsForWildlife

Imagine going out to catch lunch, only for lunch to fight back! That's exactly what happened to a female cheetah near Aruba in Tsavo East National Park, Kenya, when a hunt took an unexpected turn. Instead of walking away with a full stomach, she ended up with a deep wound on her inner left shoulder, likely caused by the horn of her prey as she tried to bring it down. Luckily, our KWS Tsavo Veterinary Team came to her rescue! They carefully stitched up her shoulder, treated a scrape on her right knee and provided the care she needed to get back on her paws. Her chances of recovery are looking promising! And then came the most important part of recovery: a little room service, wilderness edition! 😁 Every wildlife rescue is another chance to give our wild a fighting chance. Want to help make more rescues like this possible? 𝟏𝟑 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐤𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟𝐟 𝐚 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠! The participants come from Kenya 🇰🇪, Tanzania 🇹🇿, Uganda 🇺🇬, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) 🇨🇩 and South Sudan 🇸🇸. Through a collaboration between Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and Nuru Film Institute, they will receive hands-on training and mentorship from 6 accomplished industry professionals whose work has featured on leading international platforms, including National Geographic and the BBC. Among the mentors is award-winning Kenyan filmmaker and Nuru Film Institute founder Faith Musembi, whose credits include National Geographic productions; LION (2026) and QUEENS (2024). The bootcamp begins with masterclasses in filmmaking and editing before participants head into Nairobi National Park and Nairobi Safari Walk to put their skills into practice. Over the course of the week, the filmmakers will work in teams to produce 3 short films exploring wildlife and conservation through fresh perspectives. Their completed films will be showcased at a special screening at the end of the bootcamp. At KWS, we are keen to create more opportunities for young filmmakers to learn, grow and tell conservation stories. By opening up our parks and facilities to creative talent, we are also promoting filmmaking as a wildlife economy product, creating opportunities within the creative industry while showcasing Kenya’s wildlife heritage. A week to learn, create and tell stories that bring conservation closer to people. #ThisIsOurWild #ExploreExperienceConserve

𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐒𝐄𝐑𝐕𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐏𝐎𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐘 | 𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐖𝐈𝐋𝐃𝐋𝐈𝐅𝐄, 𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐀𝐆𝐄, 𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐏𝐎𝐍𝐒𝐈𝐁𝐈𝐋𝐈𝐓𝐘 Kenya is home to over 25,000 animal species across its diverse ecosystems. However, habitat loss, human-wildlife conflict, poaching, climate change and environmental degradation continue to threaten wildlife populations. Protecting these species is essential to maintaining ecological balance and securing our natural heritage for future generations. Today, KWS Director General Prof. @ErustusKanga met members of the New Frontiers gathering at Segera Conservancy, where he highlighted the Service's conservation gains, particularly in rhino recovery. As at 31 December 2025, Kenya had 2,282 rhinos: 1,147 black, 1,133 southern white and two northern white rhinos at Ol Pejeta Conservancy. He cited the expansion of Tsavo West National Park Rhino Sanctuary and the growing rhino population at Segera as evidence of the impact of strong conservation partnerships. Prof. Kanga called on stakeholders to strengthen support for the recovery of threatened species, including the Mountain Bongo, Sable Antelope, Roan Antelope and Aders's Duiker. Conservation is a shared responsibility. Let us turn our commitment into action through partnerships, investment and active participation to ensure Kenya's wildlife thrives for generations to come. #ThrivingWildlifeForever #ThisIsOurWild #PartnershipsForWildlife

Wewe ukihama ni rent imepanda, landlord amekushow uende ama umeamua ku upgrade and other short stories. 😁 For wildlife, the reasons are a little different. Sometimes, they need to move because an area is under pressure from limited food, water or space. That’s where wildlife translocation comes in. Moving wild animals to suitable habitats can help ease that pressure, strengthen populations, improve genetic diversity and restore balance across ecosystems. The KWS Vet and Capture Team is putting this conservation tool into action, with more than 150 zebras successfully relocated to a new home. Different landscape. New beginning. One bigger goal; healthier, more resilient wildlife populations.
