Midweek rain is forecast across the Ohio Valley. The heaviest rainfall is expected along and south of the Ohio River, with amounts ranging from 1 to 3 inches. Despite the potential for heavy rain, the flood risk remains low due to dry antecedent conditions.

Many sites have now gone nearly two weeks without significant rainfall. Some have gone at least 26 days or more without a rainfall of at least 0.25" in one calendar day. There are now six counties under county-wide burn bans per the Kentucky Division of Forestry. #kywx

🧵And to think it all began with just a few holes in the ground over the summer... Today was a PERFECT day to officially welcome Nelson County to the Mesonet family! Our team is grateful for site host Brad Metcalf, @EmergencyN35406 and their willingness to host today's ceremony.

"Sun dogs" (aka parhelions) happen when light from the sun is refracted by the ice crystals that make up high clouds. In rarer cases, a 22° halo can surround the sun. Sun dogs are often at brightest when the sun is just above the horizon, which was the case for many Sunday. #kywx

🌤️High cirrus clouds in the upper levels of the atmosphere helped create "sun dogs" late Sunday afternoon just prior to sunset! Classic examples of this phenomenon were captured by webcams near Marion in the west and near Bedford in Trimble County in the north-central region...

🗼🙌Big shout-out to the 6th graders from Austin-Tracy Elementary in Barren County! It was a perfect morning to show these students around our site at @WKUAgriculture Farm to show them how we measure and collect weather data.

October is historically the driest month of the year for the Commonwealth. Recent trends are living up to the billing, as noted by the lack of rainfall for the state as a whole for the past week. #kywx
