🧵 A brief and depressing history that no one will like because everyone’s guilty of something: 1. Patriarchy is given free rein to subjugate and silence women. Men hold all the power and call all the shots. Women and girls are sexually assaulted, and it’s swept under the carpet while they’re told to forgive and forget. Boys will be boys. Men have needs. No one is perfect. She was asking for it. Women are largely discouraged from pursuing careers or playing sports or generating income of their own. They can be secretaries but not lawyers, nurses but not doctors, house cleaners but not architects. They can’t wear pants in Congress, can’t have a credit card without male consent, can’t divorce a wife beater without losing their kids. (He has the money and the lawyer and the power.) Women are dependent on their husbands and fathers and forced to overlook rampant infidelity and mistreatment. It’s now the era of “stand by your man,” and everyone knows their primary purpose is to pop out babies and look pretty. This is God’s will, they’re told. God is a man. God will bless them for surrendering to abuse. God commands women to submit. They’ll earn jewels on their heavenly crowns this way. 2. And women are pissed. They’ve have enough of this nonsense. Feminism steps up to the plate where the church has largely neglected its daughters. Women fight to be treated as equals, as humans. They make amazing strides in employment and academic and athletic access. They build shelters and support networks. They pursue higher education and careers and use their God-given skills for the greater good. But they overshoot and keep on going. If men can be free to be promiscuous, so can they. Now, instead of transcending the role of sex object, they’re embracing it as a form of empowerment. They believe the misogynistic lie that, in order to succeed in a man’s world, they have to wage war against the one superpower women possess that men do not: the ability to give birth. 63 million abortions later, and they’re still no more free, and in the absence of a faith, they embrace a cause that validates their life choices and makes them feel like good people. “Love is my religion” leads to “God is queer,” and “Men can give birth” and basically every other loony tunes philosophy under the sun as long as it conflicts with the dogma of their male oppressors. 3.Men are pissed. They’ve had enough of this nonsense. They’re tired of watching toxic empathy show up at the polls and run roughshod over sanity in public policy. They’re tired of being told they don’t get to have an opinion when their offspring are flippantly destroyed by the millions. They’re calling BS on polyamory and sex clowns for kids, and when they look behind the curtain to see who’s driving the crazy train, they see a bunch of liberal white women. So they try to take back the reigns, and they justify misogynistic garbage initiatives like the move to #repealthe19th, fully convinced that the world went mad the day they started treating women like humans instead of sex slaves and breeders. They launch crusades to eliminate no-fault divorce. They preach sermons reminding the world that God says men get to be the bosses, ignoring His actual created order of mutuality and respect. The complementarians are no help because they’ll consistently side with the patriarchs at the expense of women. Half the egalitarians are no use because they’ve gone full blown rainbow brigade, while the other faithful (sexually orthodox) half sits fecklessly on the sidelines while kids are being chemically castrated in the name of progress and in the name of God. All I can say is Lord Jesus, come- Preferably in the form of a revival instead of the asteroid we deserve.

Can we stop with this? It’s not cute. It’s not clever. It’s not helpful. It’s not Christian. The ONLY thing the good Lord declared NOT good upon creation was the fact that man was alone. Left to his own devices, he runs amok. Women are necessary across ALL sectors (including leadership) to bring necessary balance. Men have had the whole of human history to demonstrate how good they are at fixing things on their own. It’s never worked. Get a clue, @JoelWBerry

I wore my Whistler, BC hoodie to the grocery store today. Within 30 seconds of walking through the door, an older gentleman stopped me, pointed incredulously at my sweatshirt, and said, “Canada?” Then he pointed at his own hat, which proudly proclaimed “America,” as though I had committed an act of treason. “We go to Whistler for vacation,” I explained. “It’s beautiful.” I realize this is a first-world problem, but I would really love to inhabit a world where the average 65-year-old man is secure enough in his patriotism that he doesn’t feel personally threatened by a stranger wearing a sweatshirt from a Canadian ski resort. The world is big enough for more than one country to be friggin cool.

What happened to X? It used to be that I could post something with the reasonable expectation that roughly 10% of the responses would be from bots and extremists. Now it’s closer to 60%, and it’s almost not even worth it. Has anyone else noticed this?

Interestingly enough, the same author published another analysis titled “Violence is now a gendered issue.” This time, he examined students' acceptance of using violence to stop campus speakers and found that, after controlling for political ideology, male students showed approximately 30% greater acceptance of violence against speakers than female students, even though men remained more willing to allow controversial speakers to appear. The whole “women are always the problem” shtick is getting a little old. expression.fire.org/p/violen…

This has been a very "are we the baddies?" week for Twitter Christian Nationalists. It's not too late. Leave the group chat. Close the account. Reconnect with your church. Put Jesus above your online frens.

Most of the people I see celebrating Samuel Sey’s potential deportation fall into one of two categories: Right-wing racists who secretly dislike anyone who wasn’t born an American with white skin. Progressives so desperate for a hypocrisy gotcha that they’ve confused supporting immigration enforcement with forfeiting your right to fair treatment under the law. Neither group seems particularly concerned with justice. They’re just delighted to see someone they dislike suffer.

NEW: At least 15,437 Washington minors had a transgender-related diagnosis on their insurance claims from 2017 to 2023. In 2022, that included 1 in 58 teen girls. A new @ManhattanInst analysis of insurance-claims data 🧵

I was just forcefully removed from a @ThornsFC game for the crime of wearing an @xx_xyathletics t-shirt. I am in shock. We peacefully wore our shirts. We were assaulted by fans. Then WE were forced to leave – with FORCE by stadium security. I am utterly in shock.

Pastors, for the literal love of God, I’m begging you: PLEASE stop comparing unmarried Christians to Adam in his aloneness. Because every time you do here is what you are *actually* demonstrating to them and everyone else: 1) that you don’t understand what it theologically meant that Adam was alone, why that wasn’t good in God’s sight and how he remedied that 2) that you don’t (care enough to) know actual real life single Christians. Not having a spouse does not mean we are “alone” like Adam was alone. Yes, many of us can struggle with loneliness (#spoileralert: so do a lot of married people), but loneliness ≠ aloneness. And, frankly, is it any wonder we struggle with loneliness when the pastoral leaders of our churches consistently talk about us as living relationally “alone” existences? Please, PLEASE, stop and actually think carefully and deeply about what you are saying.

What a vapid understanding of marriage. Not an ounce of wisdom to be found here.
"Call Her Daddy" host Alex Cooper & actress Sophia Bush: if a woman is questioning whether she can do better than her current husband, "the answer is always yes." "This idea that it's too late or you're too old, or who are you to want more, that's patriarchy. That is crazy."

I think James Lindsay is a jerk with a strong chauvinism streak. But he’s not wrong about the anti-Semitism creeping up on the woke right.

This is so profoundly stupid. I want to end abortion, too. But we do that by valuing women, not stripping them of their rights and treating them like second-class citizens. You don’t get to oppress women and then congratulate yourself for protecting them. You’re confusing protection with tyranny. And frankly, if women need protecting, it’s from men who think our rights are theirs to grant or take away. Women don’t need to be disenfranchised for our own good. We need men to stop confusing their desire for power with a moral obligation to protect us.
