A 3-year freeze on share-wise property sales has left people who need cash for cancer treatment, their kids’ education, weddings, or retirement unable to sell. Many are forced to offload shares only to co-owners at distress prices or not sell at all. UT already lost ₹40+ crore in stamp duty. ₹600 crore in private deals frozen. A Supreme Court ruling against floor-wise apartments got stretched into a near-ban on ordinary transfers. Bureaucracy calls it heritage protection.
