I’m stoked that Hero Kanu is playing well. He was one of the few players I was genuinely bummed I graded so low in summer scouting (191 on my summer board) but man the athleticism is undeniable and he’s starting to really learn how to play defensive tackle.
"I kind of outgrew soccer, at that point I was like 240 lbs... So I needed something new."

#Texas DL Hero Kanu says he’s up to 320 pounds this year after being asked to gain some weight.
Says it’s big boy ball in the SEC and he’s excited for year two in the conference.

TRENDING: Texas is projected to have one of the scariest defenses in the nation next season, as they are littered with 5 star talent and have tremendous EXPERIENCE at almost every position, which is essential in CFB these days…
DE: Lance Jackson
DT: Hero Kanu
DT: Alex January
ED: Colin Simmons (freshman All-American)
LB: Rasheem Biles (All-American)
LB: Ty’Anthony Smith
CB: Kade Phillips
CB: Bo Mascoe
STAR: Graceson Littleton (freshman All-American)
SAF: Jelani McDonald
SAF: Xavier Filsaime/Derek Williams
This front 7 looks very intimidating, with Lance Jackson and Colin Simmons coming off the EDGE and Rasheem Biles at LB.
Will they have the best defense in the nation? 👀

Big news for Texas as DT Hero Kanu will bypass the NFL Draft and return to Texas for his senior season.
Kanu recorded 4 TFL's and 2 sacks in 2025. Will be a big piece of the 2026 defense. #HookEm

True 👍🏻🤘
Hero Kanu told us through adversity you have to "trust the process"
@HornsIllus asked Kanu what's his favorite part about the process
"Just kind of like following the process and not getting ahead of yourself. For me a lot of it helps being rooted in my faith. I'm a christian, saved by Jesus...If you think you're there, you are not there yet. That's kind of like the mentality I have with that"
