Going to use this thread as a running list of books I consider must reads. Adding to it whenever I feel.
First one:
Sailing Alone Around the World by Joshua Slocum
(Written by Joshua Slocum on his journey to be the first single handed circumnavigation)
Many schools of thought here. I see both arguments. I think it’s helpful under certain instances.
IR/Management are salesman for the firm at the end of the day. A lot of investors realize this, some don’t.
There’s some signal you can pick up, but you are getting a sanitized, legal reviewed answer for the majority of questions and dialogues you have. It’s important to remember that these are trained spokespeople.
Even at large companies internally questions to the ELT at events are pre-screened. “Impromptu” visits are choreographed. Hard to see this from the outside.
Speaking with IR/Management can be helpful sometimes. But you’re speaking to a salesman, can’t forget that.
Well written and I agree with the article. I’m long $OMC.
Omnicom ($OMC) trades at about 7.3x FCF (near the low end of its four-decade range), and pays most of its cash out to shareholders.
The current price doesn't make sense to me, so I put together a three-page write-up on it to distribute
Feedback welcome.

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but if you can’t surf for shit you shouldn’t be touching an asym. You people have lost your minds.

“what would I do if I had unlimited dumb people” - Put up Twitter polls and use them to guide policy?
New piece out today. Discount to NAV idea with buybacks and dividends below NAV and demonstrated track record of:
- Growing NAV per share.
- Exiting investments at attractive MOIC / IRRs.
- Returning Capital to shareholders in the form of buybacks and dividends.
Cash. No debt.
Take what I say with a grain of salt. Everyone has different motivators.
I was pretty fortunate to experience a lot of life and travel at a younger age. I got a lot of good perspective about who I was, why I am what I am, and where I’m headed. These things evolve as you age. I’m married now, no kids (yet), but I don’t think my answer has changed much over the last decade+.
The purpose, the goal, the “why” really boils down to how I want to look back on my life when I’m in the fourth quarter of life.
What kind of man was I? Was I kind? Was I patient? What did I stand for? I want to wake up in my later years and look back and feel that I lived my life well. Adventurous, persistent, grit, happy.
It all ends one day. But you really do live beyond on your death. I think about my grandfather every day. His character, the man he was. That’s my why, I think.
There’s truly few things that matter, that move the needle.
Going into 2027 and looking beyond that what stocks do you think are set up to perform well? Any interesting trades you’re putting on?
Would love to hear.
If you invest, even remotely based on fundamentals, the market is giving you the opportunity to buy an amazing business at a nonsensical valuation. $OMC
It blows me away how little attention $OMC gets on here when it hits the boxes that many purport to find important.
$OMC another quarter of organic top line growth, profits and margins going up, shares outstanding going down. Synergies on track. Boring. Predictable. Resilient. ~6x 2028e FCF.
Like a moth to a flame
Who cares?
Companies raise money to attack infinite TAMs at returns > coe
It’s cool when spcx / ant / oai / private markets do it but not scaled public company with more right to win
oh noooooooo not dilution
smh gtfo
dilute me pls papa @finkd
Someone who *actually* understands what this means, can you explain the ramifications of this?
Effective Immediately, all organizations using PHP for their systems are advised to be prepared for an update addressing two critical vulnerabilities. PHP is widely used for web applications. These vulnerabilities often provide a direct path to the server's file system or database. If an immediate update is not feasible, it is recommend that organizations take the system offline until it can be fully mitigated. NSA will follow up shortly with more specific guidance.

Some things I’ve been looking at recently:
$AAME trades @ ~5x (2025) EPS. 0.25x TBV. Bad corp gov. Thought it might go dark but just filed 2025 10k/a. Own minuscule amount for fun < $1.20/sh.

$OMC reports Oct 22.
Pre acq, OMC was doing $1.5B FCF, IPG $1B. $2.5B combined. Subtract $120MM from divestitures = $2.38B run rate.
2026(e) cost synergies $900MM. Est. cost to get them $250MM. Assume 60% of $650MM savings drops to bottom line (FCF) = $390MM on top of $2,380.
