the competitive mkwii scene will always stay small because the hierarchy of more skill=more respect in this scene is bad. for many good players, a newcomer might threaten their “status” as a top player so they put them down to save their ego regardless of their achievements
why would a new player want to stay around a community where you are have to interact with toxic people. friends of mine who started playing competitive around the same time as me dealt with similar situations of unnecessary harassment/bullying a decade ago. we need to be better
