New Mexico turned oil & gas money into a $75B sovereign fund, committed $1.8B+ to VC funds investing in deep tech and climate tech, and helped land Pacific Fusion’s $1B Albuquerque campus.
A state acting like an LP is an underrated economic development tool.
Can the industry that powered the past help fund the future? In New Mexico, oil and gas abundance is funding the energy transition, and clean energy jobs are where the job market is heading. Full conversation with @Sacca and @caiekelley of @lowercarbon: youtu.be/vjyY8xu2JGw?si=GbPb…
loved getting to hear @caiekelley on resilience + energy investing

The Red Sky lineup is here!
Bipartisan leaders, federal transformation, global perspectives, & real-world tech. Focused on moving wildfire resilience from policy to action.
@MichaelWWara, @OCFAChief, @SenJohnCurtis, & more. Full lineup, with more soon: redskysummit.com/2026speaker…
We don’t need to make people more afraid. We need to make the next step clear.
@sacca said this about extreme weather and climate-driven disasters, but it's how I think about solving problems generally.
Say "climate" and people shut down, but nobody argues with "weird weather." Check out our latest episode, where @billclerico talks with @sacca on why decoupling climate from the actions we know we need makes adaptation feel doable. youtube.com/watch?v=vjyY8xu2…

At New York Climate Week, @billclerico sat down with Chris @sacca and @CaieKelley of @lowercarbon to talk about how they think about investing in a more extreme world, and why they think the future is built on abundance, not sacrifice.
They make the case that resilience is about the things people already care about: affordable power, secure jobs, and the ability to live without fear.

LFG @standinsurance! Insurance for modern risks. Proud to be a cofounder and investor.
Today @standinsurance announced $70M at a $1B valuation, led by @Saga_Ventures. A year ago, we insured $1B of property. Today it's $10B. Disasters follow the laws of physics. Insurance should too. Here's what our team is building:

I’m super excited to announce that @molagri has raised $5.8M USD ($8.2M CAD) in pre-seed + seed funding to develop resistance-free pesticides!
Pests evolve resistance to every pesticide we throw at them, and new chemistry takes a decade to reach the field. At Molagri, we engineer insect virus-like particles to deliver programmable bio-insecticidal payloads into pests, with species level precision. Our precision biopesticides can be updated as fast as pests adapt, keeping resistant pests under control.
With that being said, we’re hiring!! Check out all roles at molagri.com/careers.
We are looking for Scientists and RAs with experience in:
→ Synthetic Virology for RNA Delivery
→ Insect Biology and Bioassays
→ Molecular Display and Binder Discovery
→ Yeast Expression and VLP Production

Thrilled to back @zakyhassan and the @molagri team. They're designing safer pesticides that evolve as quickly as pests.
.@molagri is bringing techniques from human therapeutics to agriculture.
The company has engineered virus-like particles to target specific species in a way that evades resistance. The result is a safe, highly targeted and durable insecticide.
Thrilled to back @zakyhassan and lead their $5.8M seed: convective.substack.com/p/wh…
In my conversation with @Weather_West on the latest @disasterproofHQ, he shared advice on prepping for a Super El Niño winter in CA and his work with @ucanr.
He also runs free public office hours on YouTube -- and just did one on Tropical Storm Rachel. Highly recommend for my San Diego friends. (our full episode of Disasterproof here: youtube.com/watch?v=qpHfrnZ9…)

How do you build a future that can survive disasters that keep coming?
Recap our first Disasterproof episode, talking to @YCombinator's @paulg and @jesslivingston on why adaptability wins for founders. youtu.be/KBjtRJSblMU
Resilience doesn't have to look like a bunker.
I spent last week in New York for Climate Week and got to tour some resilience sites.
The $221M South Battery Park City Resiliency Project, which was started after Hurricane Sandy, is complete. Buried floodwalls, deployable gates, a cistern under an elevated park. It's protection for Lower Manhattan that also happens to be a place people want to be.
What does resilience look like in the real world?
During New York Climate Week, we visited Battery Park City, where a waterfront park is part of a larger effort to protect the surrounding neighborhood from flooding.
It’s a tangible example of how cities can prepare for extreme weather while creating beautiful spaces people use every day.

Building something that address wildfire?
It's not too late to apply for our firetech showcase at @RedSkySummit
Some of @billclerico and @KatManalac's favorite moments from the 2025 Summit were watching the community share their resilience solutions.

Check out my conversation with @KatManalac on extreme weather in a warming climate--including why improved prediction doesn't always lead to better outcomes, what's needed to "decouple" hazard from disaster, & my honest appraisal of emerging climate tech. youtube.com/watch?v=qpHfrnZ9…

Great conversation with UC ANR climate scientist @Weather_West on turning climate science into actionable information. Daniel Swain shares insights on extreme weather, wildfire risk & why both climate change mitigation & adaptation are critical to preparing for future disasters.
Daniel Swain, climate scientist behind @Weather_West, has become one of the most trusted voices on events like floods, droughts, and wildfires, helping make extreme weather and climate change accessible and accurate in public discourse.
This week on Disasterproof, @KatManalac sits down with Daniel to unpack what the science actually tells us about disaster prediction.
We talk about how unprecedented fire conditions were forecasted days in advance of the 2025 LA fires, and Daniel breaks down why a record-breaking Super El Niño could make this winter unlike any other.
We also dig into the bigger picture, including why we need to focus on both climate change mitigation and adaptation, and why seeing disasters coming isn't the same as being ready for them.

"We absolutely need to be ramping up our adaptation and response efforts as fast as possible since they are lagging behind our improved ability to predict many of these hazards," @Weather_West @ucanr says. He talks with @KatManalac about improving weather forecasts & response
I sat down with one of the most trusted voices in extreme weather and climate science, @Weather_West, and immediately went home to check if I need flood insurance for the coming El Niño season. (And you should too if you're in California.)

We can now see extreme weather events coming, often many days in advance. The wind event during the LA Fires showed up in models 7-10 days out.
The real work is preparing our communities for what we already know is coming.
