Say @DrJenGunter, I'm loving "Blood: The Science, Medicine, and Mythology of Menstruation" so far, but I'm unclear about one thing that I think Teenage Jen might also ask: why DO humans have extremely invasive placentas?

(I know we don't know, but I'm curious about your favorite theories.)

Also, @DrJenGunter , thanks for teaching me on page 108 about model patients. I just signed up to see if a local med school wants me. I had no idea!

you wouldn't be able to ban the shoes on the left without banning the shoes on the right without totally giving up the game. the ones on the left are even more classic.

Say @mattstratton, @QuinnyPig, @bridgetkromhout, etc: Happen to know anyone at @acloudguru #PlatformEngineering / devrel? Hoping for content about HOW they built Playground/Labs. Not the secrets, just basics I'm too n00b to know exist. They're my model for sthg similar at work.

Yes, I'm following 0 people. I'm forcing myself off of social media doomscrolling as best I can to kick off 2023, and taking all your amazing content out of my feed was the only way I could motivate myself to lock myself out of my account for realsies. Happy new year!

Tomorrow I'll be working from a bus to stay safe getting to and from a quick appointment in a snowstorm. I know the statistics.

Oh for Pete's sake we've got a snowstorm coming in, I can't even get through these boxes of receipts for tax time, and somehow I'm supposed to remember it's time to start onions already? No. Just no.

Say @karenkho, what body sunblock do you like for long summer walks, the pool, etc? I'm spending FSA and just got a lot of LR-P for the face but it feels pricey for paddleboarding and biking body coverage. Bonus if unscented or not "trad sunblock" scent.

I could just get a big old Walgreen's sport but thought I'd ask what the LR-P community does for all-over less-acne-prone areas!

My body skin has no problem with cheap Walgreen's, Banana Boat, etc. But I have to burn FSA money (yes, in January) so I'm open to experimenting with less child-smell alternatives that still don't feel obscenely wasteful.

We can afford quality, well-maintained housing for everyone. We can afford to build that much and keep that many plumbers and carpenters and exterminators and landscapers on the federal payroll at a living wage.
Replying to @MikeConnollyMA
This is the latest in a string of horrifying incidents where reports suggest housing insecurity was an underlying concern. In a modern society no one should ever fear that seeking medical attention might compromise their housing situation because housing should be a human right.

A little too on-the-nose at Christmastime. Do better, America.
An unhoused woman gave birth prematurely in freezing temps on Monday and told authorities she didn’t seek medical attention for her newborn because she expected police would break up her encampment and take her tent, leaving her and her boyfriend without any shelter this winter.
