Family violence is rising in Dallas. As of September of this year, 10,193 family-violence crimes were recorded compared to the 9,720 from the same time last year.
The city is seeing a 4.9% year-over-year increase with the largest rise being among intimate-partner crimes, accounting for 52% of all family-violence crimes.
According to the Texas Family Code definition, family violence includes acts or threats by one family or household against another and can include more than spouses or dating partners.
26-year-old Lazaro Garcia was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault in connection to the stabbing of 22-year-old Abraham Herrera.
On September 12th Garcia and Herrera had a verbal altercation at a bar that ended with Herrera being stabbed, leaving him in critical condition in the ICU.
Herrera's family said he was defending his girlfriend when he was stabbed in the chest.
A man was shot in the abdomen around 1 a.m. in the parking lot of a Dallas Cabaret on Harry Hines after confronting a burglary suspect trying to break into his truck.
The suspect shot the man and managed to get away after breaking into multiple vehicles in the lot.
The shooter is still at large and no update about the victim's condition has been released.
18-year-old illegal immigrant, Jose Raul Alarcon Sanchez, has been sentenced to just under three years in federal prison after viral video captured him spraying over a 100 bullets from a Dallas bridge as people gathered to watch New Year's Eve fireworks.
Alarcon Sanchez, a Mexican national, entered the US in may of 2025 and illegally overstayed his temporary visa.

22-year-old Zyaira Sterling has been identified as a fatal shooting victim after she was found shot in a home on the 600 block of Glen Trail Drive.
Another victim was found at the scene but was transported to the hospital in stable condition. That victim has yet to be identified.
No motive has been announced and the case is still under investigation.
Back in August, illegal alien Nestor Raul Valiente from Guatemala was arrested here in Dallas for Indecency with a Child - Sexual Contact.
45-year-old Octavio Ramirez was arrested last month in connection to a hit-an-run in Oak Cliff that took place in August.
Ramirez was found through the Flock camera system after having been on the run for a month. He was charged with Collision Causing Serious Bodily Injury.
His victim, Lisa Martinez, sustained multiple broken bones and internal bleeding from the hit-and-run, she was riding on her bike at the time of the crash.
She remains in the hospital on life support.
31-year-old Jose Hernandez De Leon was arrested in connection with the fatal hit-an-run that killed 23-year-old Seth Rains in July.
Rains was a recent Texas Tech grad whow as walking back to his hotel with friends after a concert.
De Leon has been charged with Collision Involving Death and can face up to 20 years in prison.
23-year-old gang member, Travion Williams, has pleaded guilty to the 2023 carjacking that took place that December.
Williams, while masked, approached two people who were walking to their 2020 Corvette on Elm Street.
During the carjacking he brandished a Glock 19 pistol and took the victims belongings before leaving with their vehicle.
He was able to evade police before ultimately being taken into custody.
Williams has been identified as a member of the Four Deuce Oakland Crips.
28-year-old Anthony Robinson and 31-year-old Shyheim Muhammed have been arrested in connection with a June shooting at a gas station that killed Nigel Calhoun and injured another person.
Authorities believe the shooting may have been a retaliatory attack and are actively seeking a third suspect, 31-year-old Christopher Johnson, who is still at large.
