🇮🇷 Kpler’s data on Iranian oil exports is suddenly under a microscope after attention turned to the politics of one of its most prominent Iran analysts.
Homayoun Falakshahi, who leads Kpler’s crude oil analysis team, uses Iran’s pre-1979 Pahlavi-era flag on his X profile, which has prompted questions about his political sympathies and the perceived neutrality of Kpler’s Iran coverage.
He has also been a key voice behind Kpler’s claim that Iranian crude loadings fell to zero in September under the U.S. naval blockade.
That doesn’t make the numbers wrong. Other tanker trackers, including Bloomberg and Vortexa, have also reported a halt in Iranian loadings.
But when politically sensitive, market-moving data relies heavily on analysts with openly held views on the country they cover, people are inevitably going to start asking harder questions about neutrality.

First, Reza Pahlavi pushed for sanctions that put Iranians in despair. Then he demanded an uprising in which he put thousands at risk while sitting safely in a Washington suburb.
When that failed, he promoted the narrative that only US-Israeli bombardment could bring down the theocracy.
And now that has failed miserably; he promotes civil war in Iran by calling for the arming of various groups.
There are two common themes in all of his advocacy:
First, everything he calls for serves the interest of Israel - sanctions, war, and civil war.
Second, all of his demands put all of the risk on Iranians in Iran and none of the risk on him.
Whatever happens, regardless of how many people in Iran get killed, die from medicine shortages, or get crushed by the sanctions, Reza Pahlavi will remain safe and well funded.

When Carney gave his now-famous speech in Davos, many of us - perhaps naively - were excited that Canada would emerge as a global leader to reinforce international law and its principles.
Ever since, Carney has worked hard, it appears, to disappoint us.
Here, for instance, he downplays Trump's language of annihilation as mere "war talk" and goes on to repeat the Israeli line that Iran constitutes an existential threat to Israel.
Carney's key point in Davos was that Western states applied international law "with varying rigour depending on the identity of the accused or the victim."
And that is exactly what Carney did here. He downplayed Trump's horrific language (would he have done it if Pezeshkian had uttered those words?) and then went on to indirectly justify the illegal war by repeating Israeli propaganda re Iran's threat to Israel.
Deep inside, I knew he would disappoint. Just not this fast and not this embarrassingly.

به همین دلیل، حتی اگر تحریمها اقتصاد ایران را به رکود و تورم شدیدتر بکشاند، این الزاماً به پذیرش توافقی منجر نمیشود که جمهوری اسلامی آن را تهدیدی برای بقای خود بداند.
جمهوری اسلامی برای تهدید داخلی ابزار سرکوب دارد و برای تهدید خارجی، ابزارهایی چون توان موشکی، برنامه هستهای، نیروهای نیابتی و ظرفیت ایجاد اختلال در مسیرهای انرژی جهان.
بنابراین مسئله شاید این نباشد که «چقدر فشار اقتصادی لازم است تا جمهوری اسلامی تسلیم شود؟» بلکه این است که آیا فشار اقتصادی، بدون تغییر محاسبات امنیتی و بقامحور نظام، اساساً میتواند آن را به چنین توافقی وادار کند؟
ممکن است نتیجه فشار حداکثری نه تسلیم جمهوری اسلامی، بلکه فرسایش بیشتر اقتصاد و جامعه ایران، در حالی باشد که ساختار سیاسی همچنان پابرجا میماند.

Ukraine is not trying to just enter the war with Iran. Rather, it appears it is trying to merge the Ukraine war with the Iran war.
Why? Because if these two wars merge, Ukraine will be a belligerent in the Iran war and America will be a belligerent in the Ukraine war.
That is, the US will no longer just be arming Ukraine, but also actively and openly fighting Russia with US personnel.
That is the key objective Zelensky has tried to achieve since 2022...
