Our reading strategy has gone through some major face lifts. Forever grateful to #edutwitter for the mass knowledge shared that has helped shape it and the supportive leadership that @MrNickHart and @Garflittle show daily. @solomon_teach @SWLiteracy apageturner.home.blog/2022/0β¦

As @bphillipsonMP and this extremely disappointing government ramps up more parent blaming and shaming,I'd like to offer an alternative
If you are interested in training to work 'WITH' rather than against parents and want to understand and support them better please DM me

Over 57,000 families have now enrolled in our Help Your Child to Read and Write course β a free, evidence-informed introduction to the Sounds-Write phonics programme for parents and carers of children aged 4β6.
Developed by Sounds-Write, the course offers practical strategies for supporting early reading and writing at home, using a structured, easy-to-follow approach. No prior training required β just short, accessible online sessions that fit around everyday home routines.
Weβre proud to see it reaching so many households. To make things even easier, weβve bundled all our parent-focused content into one email β ready to share with families, educators, tutors, and professionals who support early literacy.

Great first day back today! I presented on the Responsible Behaviour Curriculum - a curriculum to support emotional and social development of children. Here are the slides I used.
Teaching my son to drive honed my thinking on effortful learning can be.
Reading Building Positive Behaviour , Because of you, this is me and Why Children donβt like School over summer influenced my talk. I highly recommend all of them. @jazampawfarr @grahamchatterl2 @DTWillingham
RBC β> good regulation relies on good executive functions, boundaries and expectations (children need to feel safe), the language to communicate and understand theirs and others emotions and the right environment and culture determined by adults. @QuinnEdDev

An absolute must read for all in education. Highly recommend it. It would be useful to include this in teacher training and ECT programmes.

A really useful tool. Thanks @MrNickHart , itβs the thought process that the planner went through that we need to ensure all teachers using the planning understand. It can be tricky in school that often feel like pressure cooker environments.
What's new in #LeadershipHandbook 6.0?
Most teachers plan for others and use others' plans.
We need a shared understanding of how to do this well.

@Emma_Turner75 gave me a lot to consider in her talk on primary curriculum design. We donβt have unlimited hours to teach everything. Curric is like a big shop, what are the essentials?
Whatβs one thing they should leave school able to do? READ of course.
Children enter primary school with undeveloped learning behaviours and executive functions - lack of sustained attention and focus for one. One size fits all wonβt work - you wouldnβt feed carrots in the same way to all ages.
And @jazampawfarr is someone that I think all educators should listen to. This is why we do what we do everyday - turn up for children and never give up.
Really enjoyed @EducationFest yesterday. @lamb_heart_tea spoke passionately about teaching to the top and temporary scaffolding to ensure all are successful. Including a hands on experience of drawing with your non-dominant hand to highlight that learning is hard and effortful.
