I’ve been fortunate to have visited >80 schools this academic year, carried out >140 school development visits, and led >60 training sessions/ conferences with around 4,000 people attending in total. Here’s what I’ve gathered on my travels.
1. People are working really hard
🤬 Golden Ticket? I’m sorry that my child needs additional funding & support to access the education that she is entitled to. Just getting to the point where the Local Authority will even consider whether my child is suitable to be assessed for an EHCP has been soul destroying.
4. Stop the SEND explosion in schools.
The number of pupils issued with Education, Health and Care Plans has doubled in the last eight years.
There are some cases of genuine need - but many are responding to incentives where an EHCP is a golden ticket.
