I do some of my favorite work with @OfTheBraveUSA. We’re collaborating with the Dropkick Murphys to elevate voices defending American democracy. Recently we went backstage at the Power to the People festival to talk to a bunch of the artists. Here’s our conversation with @springsteen.
Introducing Home of the Brave Backstage, a new storytelling series hosted by the Dropkick Murphys’ Ken Casey and Michael Fanone. For our first conversation, Sarah Longwell joins the hosts for a sit-down with Bruce Springsteen about music’s role in this political moment. ⬇️

I hung out with Bruce Springsteen and had a chat about loving America and defending Democracy. The Dropkick Murphys were there too. And Michael Fanone. It was like a fever dream. youtu.be/-5DUZ_RFF90?si=PK91…

What does it really mean to humanize democracy? In the second article of our Coalition Partner and GDC Global Forum sponsor @KetteringFdn's latest Interconnected newsletter, @mayvnne, Executive Director of fellow Coalition Partner @NuruTrustKenya, reflects on that question through her experience at the Athens Democracy Forum. From Nairobi to Athens, Mary carries three deceptively simple questions: Who gets to speak? Who gets heard? And who is left outside the room? Her reflection challenges us to look beyond who is represented in global democracy conversations and ask who actually has the opportunity to shape them. She explores the gatekeeping that persists across the democracy sector, the barriers facing grassroots voices from the global majority, and why meaningful intergenerational dialogue requires bringing young people into the conversation, not placing them alongside it. And she leaves us with an important challenge: “None of this is about lowering the bar. It is about widening the door.” This is a reflection worth sitting with. If democracy is meant to serve everyone, then the spaces where its future is debated must become braver, broader and more human. Don’t miss Mary’s powerful reflection. We must refuse authoritarianism. I’m joining religious leaders representing more than 10 million people of faith to call it an existential threat to our country. Read why and add your name: moraldefiance.org

Get out and talk to people who believe that voting won’t matter. Major decisions are on the ballot that will directly affect your lives, your families, and your community. You can let strangers make these choices for you or you can use your voice. /2

This is the moment for us to flex our people power. Voting is one of the most powerful tools available—we must never give up on elections. My new op-comic, with artwork from Ivan Ehlers, is in the LA Times today. I hope one of these resonates with you. /1

I started my book talks at @Georgetown, @GWtweets, and @KetteringFdn with a personal anecdote. A trip down memory lane, to a small room in the 2000s packed with activists and big hopes, to an era when the future unquestionably belonged to democracy, and many believed another world is possible. How did we get from there to where we are now? What is the triple devaluation? And how will democracies revive? Book forhtcoming next year with Stanford University Press.Snapshots from sunny October DC. #democracy #FarRight #illiberalism #globaljustice @GUQatar

I’ve studied propaganda and see the patterns of how authoritarians capture media — and eventually societies — clearly. We are well in that process, which is why the attempted merger of Paramount and Warner brothers is even more alarming.

In addition to the electoral analysis, Ron explains what 52+ Democratic senators would mean--no replacement of Alito and Thomas with younger justices by Trump in 2027-2028, and probably a Democratic senate for the first two years of the next president. youtube.com/live/Ns1WQMABi6k…

The conversations are important. The way we have them matters too. As we prepare for the GDC Global Forum 2026 on 1 October in Athens, we are pleased to introduce some of the facilitators who will help guide participants through a day of analysis, exchange, deep listening and collective action. The Forum brings together insights from this year's regional dialogues in Nairobi, Asunción, Prague and Seoul around a common question: Why does democratic participation continue to grow while trust in democratic institutions continues to decline? We are delighted to welcome: Jaco Roets, Programs & Learning Manager of @AccountLab @LauraLThornton, Democracy expert, Policy Workshop Director and Lecturer at @Princeton Lina Antara, Elections, Political Affairs & Democracy Support Specialist Kourtney Pompi, Co-lead at Democracy Renewal Group Drawing on expertise from across the democracy field, our facilitators will help create the conditions for meaningful participation, cross-regional learning, and the development of concrete collective missions that participants can carry forward beyond Athens. We look forward to welcoming democracy practitioners, researchers, civil society leaders, policymakers and partners from around the world as we move from listening to collective action. The GDC Global Forum is sponsored by the @KetteringFdn and @CarterCenter. Registration and the full programme are available through the link in the comments. #GDCGlobalForum #GDCForum2026 #KeepDemocracyAlive #AthensDemocracyForum
