What if your body was never the thing that needed fixing? For Lyane, trying naked yoga at home sparked a journey into naturism with her husband. That journey brought them to Bare Oaks, where she describes a life-changing experience that helped her see herself differently. We love hearing that Bare Oaks played a part in her story. Sometimes, being comfortable in your own skin begins with finding a community where you can simply be yourself. Listen to her conversation about body acceptance, courage and curiosity: open.spotify.com/episode/21b… Has your time at Bare Oaks changed how you see yourself?

Gus Kenworthy: When you're able to be honest with yourself about who you are and finally can present your authentic true self to the world, you feel so much better about yourself, and it makes it easier for everyone else to feel better about you.

Michael Castleman: When people see lots of naked bodies, they quickly appreciate the great diversity of the human form and judge themselves less harshly.

To Nude or Not to Nude Understanding Clothing Optional and Nude Resorts and Beaches By Rick Dorociak | Kick Ass Nudists When it comes to nudism, there's a question that often comes up, especially among people who are considering trying it for the first time. Do I have to get naked? Well, that depends on where you're going. Not all nudist resorts, campgrounds, and beaches operate under the same rules. Some are clothing optional, while others are nude only, and although those differences might seem insignificant to an experienced nudist, they can make a world of difference to someone who's never experienced social nudism. So, let's strip away some of the confusion. Clothing Optional: Freedom to Choose A clothing-optional resort or beach is exactly what it sounds like. You have the option to wear clothing or not. Want to spend the afternoon swimming naked? Go for it. Prefer to keep your swimsuit on while you get comfortable with your surroundings? That's fine too. Clothing optional environments can be an excellent introduction to social nudism because they allow newcomers to explore the experience at their own pace. For someone who's spent their entire life being told that nudity is something to hide, simply being around other people who are comfortably naked can be a big first step, and here's something important to remember: You don't have to take your clothes off to begin changing how you think about nudity. Sometimes, just witnessing people of different ages, shapes, sizes, and backgrounds enjoying life without clothing is enough to begin challenging years of social conditioning, but there's another side to clothing optional environments. If everyone remains clothed, the opportunity to experience the freedom and body acceptance associated with social nudism may be limited. Clothing optional should mean that nudity is genuinely welcomed, not merely tolerated. Nude Only: Everyone Participates Now, let's talk about nude only resorts and beaches. At these locations, nudity is expected in designated areas, subject to the establishment's rules and reasonable exceptions. For someone who's never tried social nudism, that might sound intimidating, but consider this. One of the biggest fears first-time nudists experience is being the only naked person in the room. At a nude only resort, that concern often disappears rather quickly. You're not the only one naked. You're simply one of many people enjoying the same experience, and something interesting happens when everyone is naked. Clothing no longer becomes a way to distinguish ourselves from one another. The designer labels, expensive swimsuits, and fashion statements disappear. What remains? People. Real people, with real bodies, living real lives. That's one of the things I appreciate most about social nudism. It has a way of reminding us that beneath everything we wear, we're really not that different. Of course, nude only doesn't mean ignoring practical needs. Weather, health considerations, hygiene, and specific activities may require clothing or protective equipment. Each location establishes its own expectations. What About Nude Beaches? Beaches introduce another consideration. Some beaches are officially designated for nude recreation. Others permit clothing-optional use through local laws or established policies, and some have informal traditions of nude use without clear legal protection. That's why it's important to research a beach before visiting. Don't assume that because you've seen pictures of naked beachgoers online, public nudity is automatically legal there. Check local regulations, posted signs, and the boundaries of designated nude areas, and remember, a nude beach isn't an invitation to stare, photograph strangers, or behave sexually. It's a place where people can enjoy the sun, sand, water, and fresh air without clothing. Nothing more complicated than that. Which Is Better? I get asked this question a lot, and my answer is simple. Neither is automatically better. They're different experiences that can serve different needs. For someone who is curious but nervous, a clothing optional resort may provide the reassurance they need to take that first step. For someone ready to experience social nudism without the distinction between clothed and unclothed participants, a nude only resort may be more comfortable, and for experienced nudists, personal preference often determines which environment they enjoy most. What matters isn't whether one type of destination is superior. What matters is that people understand what they're visiting and respect the expectations of that environment. A Few Things Every First-Timer Should Know Regardless of whether you choose a clothing optional or nude only location, a few basic principles apply. 1. Respect personal boundaries. Nudity is never an invitation for unwanted attention or physical contact. 2. Leave your camera alone. Never photograph anyone without permission, and follow the location's photography policies. 3. Bring a towel. Sitting on your own towel is standard nudist etiquette. 4. Respect the rules. Every resort, campground, and beach may have different requirements. 5. Don't compare bodies. Social nudism isn't a beauty contest. 6. Ask questions. Most established nudist destinations are happy to explain what newcomers should expect. Perhaps most importantly, remember that social nudism is about recreation, community, and acceptance, not sexual activity. The Bigger Picture At Kick Ass Nudists, one of our goals is to introduce more people to the benefits of social nudism, but I've always believed that education comes before participation. We shouldn't expect someone who's spent decades being uncomfortable with their body to suddenly walk through the gates of a nude resort without questions, concerns, or hesitation. That's why clothing optional opportunities can be valuable. They provide a bridge between curiosity and participation, and that's why nude only environments are equally important. They preserve spaces where nudity is the shared expectation rather than the exception. Both have a place in the future of social nudism. As our community grows, we need to recognize that people arrive at different stages of comfort and confidence. The goal should be to help them discover what works for them while respecting the culture and rules of each destination. So, To Nude or Not to Nude? Maybe the real question isn't whether you should get naked. Maybe it's whether you're willing to challenge what you've always believed about the naked human body, because once you experience an environment where nudity is ordinary, respectful, and completely nonsexual, you might discover something surprising. The hardest part wasn't taking off your clothes. It was letting go of everything you thought being naked meant, and that, my friends, is where the real freedom begins. Kick Ass Nudists: From Status Quo to Status Nude. Nude On! Rick 😎 Real Bodies. Real Life. Real Freedom.
