A terribly sad outcome from today’s Caulfield Cup, with dual Group 1-winning mare Ohope Wins suffering an injury in a race fall and being humanely euthanised despite immediate veterinary attention. Thankfully, Half Yours was back on his feet and returned to the mounting yard, where he underwent veterinary assessment. Jockeys Mark Zahra and Jye McNeil were both conscious and taken to hospital for further checks. Our thoughts are with Chris Waller and his team, the connections of Ohope Wins and everyone who cared for her. These incidents are heartbreaking for everyone involved in racing. Every serious injury deserves proper investigation, and every opportunity to make racing safer must be pursued. There is always more work to be done. Rest easy, Ohope Wins. ❤️
Few words can express our current emotions. Our wonderful Ohope Wins was sadly brought down in today's Caulfield Cup, and despite all efforts from the on-course veterinarians, could not be saved. A dual Oaks winner and Champion in her native New Zealand, Ohope Wins was a true star of the turf, but to the people who looked after her everyday, she was so much more. She was brave. She was kind. She was full of character. But more importantly, she was loved. Our hearts go out to all involved throughout her career, especially those who cared for her on a daily basis. Thank you for all the kind messages. Yulong & Chris Waller Racing
