Water, ocean currents, water vapour and clouds ultimately dominate the earth's dynamic biosphere and sustain all life within it. Human civilisation emerged in the Late Cenozoic Ice Age (the past 34 million years) - and subsequent recurring glacial cycles and climate spikes over the last 2.58 million years of severe glaciation cycles. CO₂ ultimately does not drive such massive shifts in the world's climate. CO₂ is still a single trace gas at 420 parts per million. Nor do its effects increase exponentially as volume increases, as the warming crisis narrative seems to imply. The effects of CO₂ are logarithmic, as parts of its bandwidth become saturated or overloaded. Each additional unit has a diminishing impact. There are endless examples of warming trends that were not caused by CO₂, such as the Roman and Mediaeval warm periods during the 11,700 years of the current Holocene interglacial warm period. This 'control knob' scenario cannot be compared with the massive, linear influence of a world dominated by the oceans and ocean currents. The oceans are vast, covering 71% of the world's surface area to an average depth of 2.3 miles - holding 96.5% of all the planet's water. They also contain 91-93% of the world's retained heat energy, the great driver of ocean currents. Water is also 1,000 times denser and heavier than the air. Water is the de facto lungs of the earth, containing 86% of the surface carbon reservoir (the atmosphere retains only 1-2%). Oceans are also the world's great air conditioning unit and the heartbeat of all life, through photosynthesis. Ocean currents have warmed Northern Europe since the closure of the Isthmus of Panama around 2.8–3 million years ago. One round trip takes 1,000 years for a single parcel of water. The flow of warm waters to the north prevents much of northern Europe having a frigid climate like Greenland. The effects on the climate we experience day-to-day are overwhelming. There's a hundred times more water vapour in the air than CO₂, a trace gas at 426 parts 'per million'. Water vapour dominates the world's atmosphere, reaching up to 4% in the humid tropics and warm oceanic regions and the mid latitudes. Water vapour is the primary source of clouds, storms, rainfall, humidity and snowfall. Clouds permanently cover around 67% of the world's surface, reflecting incoming shortwave radiation from sunlight yet trapping outgoing longwave infrared radiation. They are a unique cooling parasol and warming blanket at the same time. Solar radiation, orbital cycles, oceanic thermohaline circulation and water vapor dictate earth's endlessly changing climate - largely independent of CO₂. Oceanic heat content is the primary driver that dictates how much water vapor is released, rather than the air temperature alone.

The human story is about our dogged survival in a harsh, dangerous world, thanks largely to sheer luck. For roughly 90% of the time Homo sapiens have walked the Earth, we lived through a chaotic, freezing, and unpredictable climate that forced us to remain nomadic hunter-gatherers just to survive. Our species is thriving in today's warmer Holocene interglacial cycle, which has lasted 11,700 years. This covers the entire rise of all human civilisation, every single empire, every invention and everything that makes us modern, from razor blades to spaceships. Yet our direct human ancestors once faced a severe population crash that nearly wiped them out between 930,000 and 813,000 years ago, known as the 900,000-year Bottleneck. Humans lost about 98.7% of their population and the number of breeding individuals plummeted to just 1,280. This dangerous bottleneck lasted for roughly 117,000 years. Yes, the world is a little warmer, but it's within natural variability, from 1.1°C, to 1.4°C over more than two centuries, since the start of the Industrial Revolution. It was the Industrial Revolution which kicked off the modern world, beginning around 1750. The ancient discovery of coal led to the most successful period in human history. We have medical miracles and the astonishing technology to prove it. Today's global average temperature is estimated at 15°C, but this is quite cool in geological terms. Our modern era sits deep within a major cold trough. It is several degrees cooler than the long-term average range of 18–26°C. While modern atmospheric CO₂ has increased, long-term levels were several times higher throughout much of biological history. NASA satellites have revealed the recent rise in carbon dioxide has sparked one of the greatest visible expansions of green leaf area from space 'in recorded history'. CO₂ levels over 250 years from 290 ppm to 426 ppm have added to a spreading canopy of green. Agriculture has expanded too. The observable data throughout geological history suggest today's cooler temperatures are well within natural variability. The natural world invented the miracles of multicellular life and DNA on its own. It didn't need human intervention. The Earth runs its own course. The human species and most mammals evolved and flourished under these conditions. Many are unaware that we still are in the Late Cenozoic Ice Age, beginning 33.9 million years ago when permanent ice sheets formed on Antarctica. Ice ages may be rare, but we are in one, whether we like it or not. Cold spells usually coincide with famine, misery and an early death. Until the past few decades, most people only learned about the joys of CO₂ in biology classes at school. It is where we discovered this trace gas is the building block of complex life and the vital engine of photosynthesis.

Despite four decades of continuous climate alarmism, roughly 10% of the Earth's total land area remains permanently capped by glacial ice, which covers 15 million square kilometers (5.8 million square miles). Earth is still bound to the Late Cenozoic Ice Age, and our planet's average global temperature still hovers around a very livable 15°C. This is far below the world's long-term planetary average of 18°C to 24°C - seen throughout most of Earth's biological history. It makes the idea of a global warming crisis seem out of sync with reality. That is nearly a third of its extent during the peak of the Last Glacial Maximum (26,000 to 19,000 years ago), when continental ice sheets reached their historical zenith. The Antarctic ice sheet remains the largest and thickest body of ice on the planet, extending up to 4.8 kilometers (about 3 miles) deep. It holds roughly 90% of global ice volume and accounts for 85% of total glacial land cover. Spanning 14 million square kilometers (5.4 million square miles), Antarctica alone makes up 8.3% of Earth's total land surface. A basic geographical reality is often forgotten: land comprises a mere 28% of the planet's surface. All human cities, towns, and infrastructure combined occupy just 1% to 3% of that land (while deserts take up 33% and forests 31%). We live on an ocean world, and waters cover 72% of the globe to an average depth of 2.3 miles. Crucially, the oceans hold 86% of the global carbon reservoir and absorb over 90% of retained thermal energy. By contrast, the atmosphere holds a fraction of a percent of each. The oceans—not human industrial activity—serve as the true long-term regulatory engine for atmospheric carbon dioxide and global climate stability. The current Quaternary Glaciation is part of an ice age cycle that began 34 million years ago with the thermal isolation and glaciation of Antarctica, later intensified by the closure of the Isthmus of Panama and orbital variations (Milankovitch cycles). Carbon dioxide was not the driver of these immense shifts. All of human civilisation, agriculture and technological progress has unfolded within a brief, warm respite: the Holocene interglacial period, which began just 11,700 years ago. Yet for 40 years, the narrative has been dominated by a campaign driven by an unaccountable bureaucratic authority—the United Nations—pushing an agenda of global control.

This may well go down as the single greatest transfer of public assets by elected democratic governments in world history. Without any serious consultation with their own citizens, Western governments eagerly aligned with the UN and signed onto framework agreements like the 2015 Paris Accord. What began as voluntary international targets rapidly morphed into binding domestic legislation. The resulting legacy is the systematic exclusion of taxpayers from decision-making, while administrations power ahead, committing billions in subsidies to unproven pet projects—such as Australia’s much-hyped green hydrogen initiative. Virtually all heavy industry across the West is now in chronic decline. Manufacturing jobs are being hollowed out, striking directly at power-intensive sectors like electric arc steel, aluminium smelting, and fertiliser production. Once-abundant, cheap, and reliable hydrocarbon energy is being degraded and decommissioned in favour of weather-dependent renewables. Simultaneously, the supply chain for this transition has been handed lock, stock, and barrel to Beijing. China now produces roughly 90% of all photovoltaic components, refined critical minerals, and panel hardware—cementing its position as the greatest manufacturing power in history through an unprecedented transfer of Western wealth. In place of high-density power generation, more than a million wind turbines and an estimated 9 billion solar panels are now scattered across open farmlands, hillsides, and coastal vistas. Because these sources are intermittent and unreliable, integrating them into existing power grids presents a colossal $21 trillion global infrastructure challenge. Prior to this shift, Western industrial policy prioritised dense, dispatchable energy security. Today, governments unilaterally lock in multi-decade decarbonisation commitments that outlast their electoral tenures by decades. Vast tracts of public and agricultural land are greenlit and bulldozed for transmission corridors, access roads, and sprawling industrial turbine arrays—all to serve an intangible belief system that vilifies carbon dioxide, the very driver of essential energy and biological growth. The tangible result? Some of the most expensive household power bills in modern history, the destruction of dispatchable coal and gas capacity, and severe damage to national industrial, economic, and defensive resilience. As one outraged writer noted, Net Zero stands as perhaps the most diabolical act of self-inflicted harm ever visited upon democratic nations by their own leadership. Government by regulatory decree is not government by representation. Mandating a multi-decade economic rewiring without an explicit electoral mandate violates the fundamental social contract between the state and the citizen. Locking in 30-year subsidy contracts strips future generations of their democratic right to adjust policy based on real-world performance. If we weren’t so accustomed to being betrayed, it would be recognised for what it is: a raw, heavy-handed exercise in power at the expense of the people.
