watching western media do bizarre horse-race reporting of Israel elections alongside the continual failure to report on the genocide is utterly horrific
what is wrong with these people's souls

“That means that 40,000 people's rights have been removed, without there being any good enough justification to do so, as [former Attorney-General] Judith Collins herself noted when the legislation was brought before the House”

This is outrageous, yet another moment of authoritarian statisation because the state’s involvement in genocide is indefensible.
The Home Office has blocked Andreas Malm from entering the UK.
Politicians, academics, writers and artists have condemned the decision.

If this story was to do with any other group in New Zealand it would be an election deciding scandal. Because it's happening to people most politicians and journalists agree aren't *really* people it's more just an interesting footnote.

did i specifically tell people today that i was trying not to overdo it first week back in the pool? yes
did i overdo it this afternoon? maybe
This is a really interesting an editorial because it makes a half-arsed effort to call Pal Action antisemitic, but then gets to the real point: a defence, generically, of the repressive power of the British state so that it can continue to attempt to project imperialist power.
The two largest Jewish newspapers have co-written an editorial warning that if Palestine Action wins its appeal against proscription next week then the British Jewish community will feel utterly unprotected. Sadly they’re right.jewishnews.co.uk/jn-jc-rever…

how many times are we going to let racist white people frame their racism toward muslim/arab people as fear rather than racism? it plays right into trumpism, it's disgusting bigotry, and it's unacceptable for anyone who claims to be progressive to let this go unchallenged

I've identified several of my/other articles taken down (on rape, Project 2025's porn ban, right-wing pedophilia conspiracy theories, anything w/ 'porn' in headline, etc)— when I asked the owner about this, he sent me rude/useless emails and said I "owe Jezebel an apology"

The world’s dockworkers are a model for the rest of us--use your collective leverage, withdraw your labor from systems of dehumanization
NEW: On Friday, dockworkers at 111 ports in 22 countries and regions on five continents will stop work in a coordinated strike against war, according to the most recent information from the organizing unions.
More than 25 dockworkers’ unions have now signed on, from Marseille to Mumbai, Hamburg to Montevideo, Melbourne to Oakland. Days ago the count stood at about 100 ports in 17 countries, and that figure doesn’t include the dozens of unions in other sectors that have pledged support. Their demand is simple: no weapons and no military cargo through their ports. Nearly everything the world ships passes through the docks, and without the workers who load and unload it, nothing moves.
In France, the main dockers’ union says the country’s ports will be 95% shut. Italy, India, Greece and Turkey face 24-hour strikes, and Morocco and Cyprus will see stoppages of up to two hours, with rallies planned in port cities around the world. In Greece, metalworkers, ship-repair workers and young people are joining the dockers, and in the US, ILWU Local 10 is striking in Oakland and San Francisco. The unions are working from the Istanbul Declaration, signed in May, with each one deciding for itself how to take part. They are also fighting for their own jobs, against cuts from automation and for contracts, raises, shorter hours and safety.
The unions point to escalating wars in Ukraine and the Middle East and the danger of a generalized war. They condemn Israel’s new crimes in Hebron, carried out with the backing of the US, NATO and the EU. Israel’s lockdown of the city is now in its sixth day, with more than 3,000 Palestinians displaced, according to the UN. Palestinian unions have endorsed Friday’s action.
In Italy, the fight has spilled beyond the docks. The union USB has called for a nationwide general strike. Last night, the Italian government ordered transport workers back on the job last night. USB said it would defy the order and accept the steep penalties.
The unions are calling on workers and young people everywhere to stand with the dockworkers, saying “Ports for peace and the peoples, not launching pads for war.”
I’m reporting from Calabria, Italy, and I will be in Genoa tomorrow ahead of the strike to report on the ground during the mobilzation.

yeah I know they call it caucus solidarity but that’s an idiotic term for control / topdown discipline / obedience, & there’s no need to indulge it: Labor bureaucrats obv find it cute to cosplay as a labour movement, but it’s a bastardisation of the v concept of solidarity
