many seem to think that Graza created all this value by putting olive oil in a squeeze bottle. that's why everyone wants to skip straight to 'it's like Graza for X' The format was helpful but the real value creation came from expanded occasions.

Per the Restaurant Association, 1/3 of restaurants say they were not profitable in the first half of the year. There is an ongoing profitability crisis, driven largely by labor costs (which is why I think menu prices will be slow to come down) but also supply, rent, etc etc.

. @McDonalds has over 14,000 restaurants domestically. @7BrewCoffee has fewer than 1,000. 7 Brew started selling energy drinks with Red Bull but created its own line and is now going into retail. Red Bull isn’t cheap, so I understand the pivot. The question is brand loyalty. Red Bull has strong brand credibility, but perhaps 7 Brew doesn’t think it justifies the cost. I mention store count to show how a concept 14 times smaller is doing something McD didn’t. Now we did test a non-branded energy base in a test market, Red Bull won. I wonder if the results would be different with an in-house brand vs non-branded? 🤔
