On their performance
Lopareva: Pretty good. We were excited to be in this competition, because we worked a lot during the summer and since our last competition in Italy, which didn't go as smoothly as we wanted. So we've been working hard, and we were very excited to show what worked. And it went not bad.
Brissaud: We feel the energy. I think we were prepared for that. It's maybe not our best, but we feel in the momentum. It's where we want to go with this program. In each competition, feel more and more. So today is good. We take it.
On their clown concept
Lopareva: From the beginning, even before we found the music, we told our coach, "We want to be clowns. In waltz, we want to be clowns." So then with Marie, we were looking into the possible music choices. She came out with the music, which we settled on. We did the program with Marie, and then we worked a lot with David, a professional clown from Cirque du Soleil. He made the show, so we learned a lot with him. We were absolutely not doing on ice with him in the beginning. We just performed on the floor. We did a lot of exercises, and we think it's where we found a lot of subtle things in our program with him, and we continue to explore that.
On blending the waltz with clowning
Brissaud: Clown is not just smile and make jokes. Sometimes it's a sad clown. For example, in the beginning, we play with that. I try to make her laugh. And it's a complicated process to put on ice, because acting off the ice is one thing, but putting it with difficulty and technique is more difficult. That's where we try to be, and I think we got it slowly.
Lopareva: We try to find the expression for the waltz part, which is not too disturbing, and also goes hand in hand with the waltz, 'cause everyone wants to see a more classical, academic waltz, beautiful posture, edges, relaxed. So we try not to put too much clownery in that part.
Brissaud: It's really what we want to show, the palette of all of what we can do. We're pretty famous for the exceptional style we have. We can do a lot of different styles, but we still can do waltz and classic. So we just explore that this season with this program, and we love it.
