Applications close March 31st.

This thread's an interesting and thoughtful read but assuming that people have a choice in where to go to grad school assumes privilege, which does harken back to the point that you shouldn't have to live in the MOST EXPENSIVE PLACES IN THE US to be trained. #poorinacademia

I got an F on my first high school chemistry test and I told my teacher I would never become a chemist because I hated it :,)
Shout out to Maria in the @AmericanAir in the customer service center at DFW terminal C. She was at getting me rebooked and helping me navigate an unfamiliar airport!

Hey #AcademicChatter
Does anyone have any suggestions/experience with getting accommodations for their disabilities for graduate TA responsibilities that their willing to share? Specifically surrounding invisible disabilities? DMs are open!

Ok so you’ve recapitulated the 15 million year history of a protein from molecular to biophysical change. But HAVE YOU assembled a pop up castle on the first try? (The answer is no, it’s never been done). Summary of the instructions: put it together it looks like this.
#PoorInAcademia thank you @sabrinastronomy for telling your story. Despite wanting diversity the system still assumes that you have financial stability if you make it through the gates.

[Please RT] The Khalil Lab is hiring! We are looking for a Lab Manager to support daily research activities for our group of ~20 scientists. Ideal candidates can independently create, implement, and enforce workflows for molecular biology labs. Full job post in thread below 👇
Super proud of our latest work in @jbiolchem which utilizes multiplexed assays of variant effects to functionally map structural features of PAI-1 that contribute to its latency transition. @ColinKretz @zmhuttinger @varianteffects

Happy to share our story on how megakaryocyte reprogramming in breast cancer produces platelets that promote metastasis. Thanks to all of our collaborators who saw this over the finish line! @SandraMcAllist4 @JosepItaliano @BrighamHeme @isabellecarlota

Everyone is sharing this #PLOSCompBio article but allow me to jump on the bandwagon. It really isn't that hard to support students in STEM from diverse backgrounds. #PoorInAcademia

#HappyNationalComingOutDay I'm so glad to be out with all my identities. My life is so much happier and fuller now than it was before! 🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈
So tired of having to tell people that my unusual CV is due to being poor and a primary caregiver to my mother for 10 years. It feels like a sign of weakness. We need more established PIs like @HarmitMalik to normalize this. #poorinacademia
Replying to @HarmitMalik
It occurred to me that likely scenario is that many of them did not survive such a ‘break’ to compete for grants or promotions because our system deems it so unusual that someone would have to take a break for childcare or illness.
So awesome to have star mentors like @CterminiPhD who know about the hidden curriculum of graduate school. #PoorInAcademia
(But also sad because there is a hidden curriculum😪)

Since text-rich posters are really impossible to absorb when you’re at a busy conference, I love this format for the Background section of a poster!
I wonder what #medTwitter thinks about it? 👍🏼 or 👎🏽
Serious #FirstGen #impostersyndrome setting in when asking people to write recommendation letters for me. They are willing and able, but it still feels like I'm placing an undo burden on them. (I'm no spring chicken but I can't seem to shake this out of my system) #poorinacademia
