If the US wants to maintain deep tech leadership, they should ease the burden of immigration or risk losing talent to competition. My brief perspective: sciencepolicyreview.org/2022… Thanks to @SciPolRev @Knappe_ @BertNeyhouse

Can’t believe my time at @datamolecules is coming to an end, I couldn’t have made it without the patience and help of every single person there, not to mention my amazingly supportive cohort. *Thank you *! @luisceze @KStraussIdeas @jeffnivala thank you x ∞
Congratulations Dr. @LOrganick! You ventured into a PhD between CS and molecular biology, done seminal work in DNA data storage, and were instrumental in getting UW MISL @datamolecules off the ground! So *Thank you* and Go Lee! H/T to co-advisors @KStraussIdeas and @jeffnivala!

I should mention I didn’t ask for this defense flyer, and the person who made this made three other versions…though we both agree none of the other versions are as glorious, likely because they don’t feature cats.

Getting sick and tired of @nytimes Covid coverage ignoring (1) there are health outcomes other than death (2) we’re not doing well enough to loosen basic precautions when, for ex, hospitals are still stretched thin (3) Covid is a public health concern not just an individual one

Very grateful to hear a professor in a relevant field say what many of us have been thinking. To quote a recent email I saw, “stay positive, test negative”.

“There are all of these other adjacent, really important fields that are just starved for funding [...] Before we throw money into the cloud, I would like to see money going into other disciplines.” Any national AI funding should be AT LEAST 50% to social sciences & humanities.

I may or may not have a bucket of liquid nitrogen at my disposal tonight. If I had one, what would you suggest I dip in it? Unrelated- marshmallows taste weird after being frozen, and the overgrown mint plant undergoes some neat color changes and shatters so nicely.
