In spite of the global crisis of #AMR, another pharmaceutical company abandons antibacterial drug development. We need alternative models to fund such programs and support for researchers at academic institutions working on anti-bacterials.

#Antibiotic R&D pipeline remains insufficient to tackle the growing spread of #AntibioticResistance & #access to treatments is still a challenge...😔 Latest @WHO report highlighting the progress but also the remaining gaps 👇 who.int/news/item/15-05-2023… #PowerOfAntibiotics

Antibiotic-resistant infections caused 5 million deaths in 2019. In 2020, hospital-onset #AMR infections and deaths jumped 15%. In 2023, superbug outbreaks have gripped our attention. The time to act is now ⁦@CentreImpactAMR⁩ ⁦⁦@WHO⁩ workingtofightamr.org/2023/0…

It was a great opportunity to present our work on #AMR in #AgedCare at the #AMRSummitSA today and to meet and talk to so many interested in combating AMR. Thank you @nadinehillock for the lovely photos.

Replying to @LabVenter
@LabVenter look at how biocides contribute to the development of #AMR. New PhD student Owen will work on the formulation of responsible cleaning products with a lower risk for #AMR development. Huge thanks to @DIIS_SA, @MTPConnect_AUS, @UniversitySA, @sachiefsci and Hygiene Co.

#MicrobeoftheMonth! Can you guess who I am? 1) I have a sweet, grape-like aroma. 2) Most of the time, I don't cause problems—but I can infect everything from the blood to the lungs. 3) I'm known for my sticky biofilms. Leave a guess below & stay tuned for the big reveal!

Antimicrobial-resistant infections killed an estimated 4·95 million people in 2019. This is a silent pandemic, one that does not attract much attention or research money. #AMR The overlooked pandemic of antimicrobial resistance thelancet.com/journals/lance…

Covid-19 affected antimicrobial prescribing with decreases in dispensing of 22%-49% for several antimicrobials in Australia. Good news from @ACSQHC and an opportunity to obtain a sustainable reduction in inappropriate prescribing. #Antimicrobial resistance

Open access publishing did well in the latest altmetrics. Significant increases in impact factors for journals we contribute to: @FrontMicrobiol, @antibioticsmdpi and portlandpress.com/bioscirep from @PPPublishing. Less papers and more robust reviewing can work for #OpenAccess.
