My beautiful girl TigerLily went OTRB 2/5/24. It was completely unexpected, a very sneaky cancer took her life. Her sister Joey & I are trying to adjust to this new quiet world without her. Tiger was the rowdy rebel always barking. We miss you so much sweetie you were a queen! 👑

A bit of a southeast wind made for a choppy day of mailboat'n. Burrows Island Lighthouse with the Olympics in the background, the Olympics, a woolly bear caterpillar (Isabella Tiger Moth) on a walk-about and fascinating skies.

We only have 1 picture of Nash as a puppy - from his vet record at the ranch where he was raised - and then fired fur not wanting to herd anything. He came to us at 9 months old and we have loved him ever since. #ThrowbackThursday #DogsOfTwitter #DogsOfX

Bonnie is doing much better than her brother Clyde and today she was well enough to go out and about. We took them in last week from 2 kind ladies who saved them from a horrible situation of neglect. It’s hard to believe that these gentle golden retrievers were ever treated like this. They don’t have a bad bone in their bodies. Sadly her brother passed before we knew about them and Clyde is still very ill and needs a big operation next week. Bonnie is poorly herself but she is keeping up the spirits and we hope to help her back to full health. She has also clearly been used for breeding. Today was the first day where I really saw her coming alive as a golden retriever. She was craving attention, loving her food, and her tail just could not stop wagging. To the many hundreds of people who've messaged me saying she reminds them of Tina, I have to say I fully agree. Still an incredibly sad situation that the brother is gone and another one is so critically ill, but today we have hope and that's all we could ask for. Older followers will probably recognize the bandana that has helped Tina, Shack, Mr. Big, Hank, and many other dogs in their recovery. Hard to believe but it is still the very same one and I also wore it on my book tour all around the world. Bonnie and Clyde have the whole world rooting for them ❤️🤞

It’s amazing how fresh Birdie is. Look at that big wet nose and how clear her eyes are. She’s hiding from a storm today in the office. She says she is going to live forever ❤️

Steve Carell got peanut butter for being such a good boi and he stood up the whole time. Steve still gets tired easily but continues to improve. This is his endurance training. He will always have an arched back but it droops less than a week ago. IT HAS ONLY BEEN ONE WEEK HERE. Miracle dog.

Sharing a post by the Northern Hope Dog Rescue in Canada 🥹🙏 Rest in Peace, Jesse 💔😢 - you made the world a better place 🥹this was his dog rescue foundation in British Columbia - he was killed in Ukraine while he was rescuing dogs and cats 💔🪽 raincoastdogrescue.com/ “In Loving Memory of Jesse Adams — Our Friend and Brother in Rescue Some people come into this world and leave it a little better than they found it. Jesse Adams was one of those people. Jesse was our friend, our brother in rescue, and a man whose love for animals was reflected not just in what he said, but in the way he lived. He was someone who would make unimaginable personal sacrifices at a moment’s notice to help an animal in need. When an animal needed help, Jesse showed up. He didn’t wait for the circumstances to be perfect, for the timing to be convenient, or for someone else to step forward. He saw a need, and he acted. But Jesse’s impact extended far beyond the animals he helped save. He championed other rescues. He believed in collaboration over competition, in finding solutions together, and in the power of connection and relationships to create meaningful change. He understood that none of us can do this work alone, and that the animal welfare community is stronger when we lift one another up and work with communitites. Jesse was the person you could call when you needed help on a mission. The person you could turn to when you were trying to navigate an impossible situation. The person who would listen, offer guidance, share the burden, or simply be a shoulder to lean on when the weight of this work became too much. Because those of us who work in rescue know that the love is immense, but so is the heartbreak. And having people like Jesse beside you makes all the difference. His legacy is not simply the animals he helped or the lives he touched. It is the example he set. Jesse was a man who lived his values through his actions, who showed up when it mattered, and who made the world a better place for both animals and the people fighting for them. We are struggling to find words for a loss that feels unimaginable. There are no words that can make sense of this tragedy, and no words that can adequately express how much Jesse meant to the rescue community and to those who were fortunate enough to call him a friend. But if there is anything we can carry forward from this devastating loss, let it be this: Do the thing. Don’t wait until it’s perfect. Do it messy, but do it authentically. Feed the hungry animal. Help the one who has been forgotten. Show up for the difficult mission. Partner with first nations communities. Reach out to another rescue. Offer a hand, share what you know, ask for help when you need it, and stand up for those who cannot speak for themselves. Don't let fear, uncertainty, bureaucracy, or the pursuit of perfection stop you from doing something good. There will always be reasons to wait, reasons to doubt yourself, and reasons to believe you aren't ready. But sometimes, an animal's life or true systemic change depends on someone being willing to try anyway. Jesse understood that. He lived it. We cannot bring Jesse back, but we can honour him by carrying forward the values he embodied. By choosing compassion. By choosing collaboration. By showing up for one another. By doing the work, even when it is hard, and remembering why we started in the first place. To Jesse's loved ones ,family and friends and our friends at Raincoats Dog Rescue, our deepest condolences for the heartache we know you are in. Know that we are here to support you in whatever way you need as you navigate your way forward ❤️ Jesse, thank you for the animals you saved, the people you supported, the connections you built, and the example you left behind. You will be deeply missed, never forgotten, and forever a part of this rescue family. Rest peacefully, our friend and brother. We will carry the work forward. ❤️🐾”

Frank has been through far more than any dog should. 💔 Abandoned, deaf, incredibly sick, and severely malnourished, this beautiful boy needed urgent help. We promised to do everything we could to save him. Today? He is up, running, and bulked up like a completely different dog! Seeing him so strong and happy makes it all worth it. We are so proud of you, Frank!

Just days ago, we thought we were losing our beautiful Birdie, but our girl had other plans 🩷 And as soon as she was strong enough, she made her way back home. Back to her little retirement village and the life she's come to love so much. It's moments like these that remind us why we do what we do. Because if Birdie was still living on the streets, this might have been the end of her story. But instead, she has a safe place to grow old. A bed to curl up in, friends to spend her days with, and people who love her more than she'll ever know. And the best part is that none of this would be possible without the incredible community of people who care about dogs like Birdie. You've helped give her something she never had before. A life worth fighting for 🥰

The weather app was right. Conditions are not ideal for gardening today. It is, however, the perfect day for Mooseweiler zoomies. And beef soup. I'm more than happy to supervise soup making operations. Kenji is beginning to show an interest in meateaterology. Future weather dog? Time will tell.

Not every dog wants to be a skeleton. Some would rather just be a couch. If your dog actually likes the costume, you can get them used to it with short sessions and treats so it starts feeling like a good thing. But if they're panting, stressed, or giving you that look like they regret every life choice, take it off. A dog that's miserable in an outfit isn't being festive. They're being held hostage in felt and velcro. Taking them out for trick-or-treating sounds cute until you remember the neighborhood turns into pure chaos. Costumes everywhere, decorations that make noise, and those animatronics that jump at the worst possible moment. Your dog's brain is trying to process way more than it signed up for. Make sure they have lots of room and don't have to get too close to the giant animatronics or people in strange outfits. Keep an eye on their body language. Lip licking, wide eyes, tail tucked. If you see it, just head home. A scared dog can panic and make bad choices, and that puts everyone at risk. You're in charge of both ends of that leash. And please, if they look like they're smiling, remember that there is a good chance they're stress panting. Home needs to stay calm. All those strangers in masks ringing the doorbell nonstop is a lot for most dogs. Set them up in a quiet room with some white noise, a stuffed Kong, and zero access to the door. They didn't sign up to greet the world's creepiest parade. Halloween's for the dogs too. It's fine to mess around at home with them in their costumes before the trick-or-treaters show up, then just settle them down with their own treats. Either way the goal's the same: your dog feels okay, and you get to enjoy the night without dealing with a meltdown. Admin
