Nothing like CRISPR genotyping in the lab on a rainy Saturday. Easy to sit in your office and forget how awesome this job can be sometimes #PIpower

4 years ago, we started a genetic screen for suppressors of C9orf72 dipeptide toxicity, a common cause of ALS/FTD. After many twists and turns, that story was published this weekend in PNAS. Proud of all the students, techs, postdocs that contributed! pnas.org/content/118/40/e210…

By letting the worm tell us what's important through the use of unbiased genetic screening, we gained entirely unexpected insights into the mechanism of C9 DPR toxicity. Importantly, these new mechanisms are highly draggable and may offer new options for ALS/FTD therapy. /END

When things don't work out the way I hope - grants, papers, promotions, etc - I always go back to Goggins. Life ain't easy. Adversity and failure are the warmup acts for success. And when success comes, remember what you overcame. With the right mindset, you are unstoppable!
