The striking part is the attribution: heat was linked to an estimated 540,800 deaths a year in 2016-2023, and 68% of them are attributed to human-caused warming. That adds up to almost 3 million climate-attributable heat deaths. It's an estimate of deaths that already happened, not a projection.
