The big issue with this play is Kaprizov really has no way to defend himself or the expectation that he’s going to get hit. Players have been coached and told their entire lives to not touch the goalie, regardless of whether or not they’re in the crease. You hardly ever see a goalie leave the net in this scenario. It was not a dump in form the neutral zone. It was a high to low pass from the point. Goalies don’t ever leave their net in this case. Hofer was out of his crease all night because his defenseman were incompetent slowing this line down. Kaprizov can’t hit him because it’s a penalty. So Hofer does this intentionally to get a lick in on a star player whose line was lighting him up all game. Just a dirty play. Definition of bush league. And if you think otherwise you don’t know puck.
