I see Matt is still biting off more than he can chew. I'll lay out the positions of the Joint List that make it an unacceptable coalition partner to Zionist parties -- and since Matt knows neither Hebrew nor Arabic, I'll translate where relevant to English. 🧵
The Joint List supports the creation of a Palestinian state alongside Israel in accordance with international law, which is what Israel’s DC advocates long demanded. It’s quite telling that Satloff now calls this is “an alternative to the fundamental idea of the state.”

We categorically deny allegations that Qatar has interfered in Israeli elections or funded any activities intended to influence their outcome. We reject the accusations made by certain Israeli politicians and their contacts in the media, who have launched yet another disinformation campaign aiming to drag Qatar into Israeli political disputes following this week’s elections. They accuse Qatar of buying off Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli political left and now, in this latest campaign, the Arab vote. If these claims were to be believed, Qatar would apparently own all of Israel. These accusations are ridiculous and dangerous in equal measure. The repeated invocation of Qatar in Israeli electoral rhetoric reveals an excessive obsession with our country among certain Israeli political and media figures. Qatar should not be used as a scapegoat for the political failures of certain Israeli politicians. Rather than trying to shift attention onto Qatar, they would be better off focusing on their own voters, improving people’s everyday lives, and undoing the damage they’ve created in the region. We reiterate that we have no involvement in Israel’s political or electoral competition. These are internal Israeli matters in which we do not interfere, and we will not accept any attempt to draw Qatar into its domestic political disputes. Any government emerging from these elections must uphold international law and relevant United Nations resolutions, engage seriously and honestly on the Palestinian issue, and respect the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them their right to self-determination and an independent state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. This requires responsibility and accountability. None of this will distract us from our important role as a mediator, our diplomatic and humanitarian efforts, our support for the Palestinian people, or our commitment to a just and comprehensive peace and regional stability. We will continue working closely with our regional and international partners to resolve ongoing conflicts through diplomacy. We will not remain silent while Qatar’s name is exploited to serve electoral agendas or narrow political interests.

The Beit Shean valley is a great example of how identity drives voting - The religious kibbutzim went Smotrich (w/ strong opposition showing). The Mizrahi moshavim (heavily Kurdish) and cities voted Likud. The secular kibbutzim voted Eisenkot. And the Arabs voted Joint List.

Many assume that voters in West Bank settlements are right-wing and/or for the Bibi govt. They generally are, but there are 3 (secular) areas where that's not so - Kibbutzim on Dead Sea's north shore Farming towns in central Jordan valley Farming towns above the Jordan valley

To describe Marc Chagall as anything other than a Jewish artist or to celebrate neighborhoods like Brighton Beach and Rego Park but not describe their Jewish character are just the latest examples of the Mayor's relentless, pathological campaign to erase Jews from the story. He does it so often that one has to assume that this is not ignorance or accidental, but a deliberate effort to normalize antisemitism and marginalize Jewish New Yorkers. It’s despicable.

This is how Galilee Druze -- who are drafted into the IDF and were never part of Syria -- vote as well.
Who won the Golan Heights Druze? The secularist right-wing (and traditionally Russian-speaking) Yisrael Beiteinu. Barely any votes for Arab (Palestinian nationalist, Communist, or Islamist) parties.

There wasn't a uniform reaction politically to October 7 for Israelis along the Gaza border. Instead, there wasn't much of reaction. Those were on the left before October 7 remained there, as did the center left, and the national religious, and Shas, and Likud.

A nice visual of the strength of the Ra'am party (and not the Joint List) in the Bedouin cities and towns around Beer Sheva. They all voted 80-90%+ for Ra'am.

Months of threats against Iran rarely signaled a strike. Now, writes @Lazar_Berman of @TimesofIsrael, a return to war in the coming weeks seems likely: Israel is pressing for a joint operation, and the Iranians know it. At MEF Online.

How did Jerusalem's Christian quarter vote? 56% for the Arab Joint List (I'd assume because of the Communist Hadash party, but also many Muslims who live there). Almost 20% vote for right wing and Haredi parties, obviously Jews who live in parts of the Christian quarter.

Eric Hoffer wrote this article about Israel almost 60 years go. It reads like it was written yesterday. "The Jews are a peculiar people: things permitted to other nations are forbidden to the Jews. Other nations drive out thousands, even millions of people and there is no refugee problem. Russia did it, Poland and Czechoslovakia did it, Turkey threw out a million Greeks, and Algeria a million Frenchmen. Indonesia threw out heaven knows how many Chinese-and no one says a word about refugees. But in the case of Israel the displaced Arabs have become eternal refugees. Everyone insists that Israel must take back every single Arab. Arnold Toynbee calls the displacement of the Arabs an atrocity greater than any committed by the Nazis. Other nations when victorious on the battlefield dictate peace terms. But when Israel is victorious it must sue for peace. Everyone expects the Jews to be the only real Christians in this world. Other nations when they are defeated survive and recover but should Israel be defeated it would be destroyed. Had Nasser triumphed last June he would have wiped Israel off the map, and no one would have lifted a finger to save the Jews. No commitment to the Jews by any government, including our own, is worth the paper it is written on. There is a cry of outrage all over the world when people die in Vietnam or when two Negroes are executed in Rhodesia. But when Hitler slaughtered Jews no one remonstrated with him. The Swedes, who are ready to break of diplomatic relations with America because of what we do in Vietnam, did not let out a peep when Hitler was slaughtering Jews. They sent Hitler choice iron ore, and ball bearings, and serviced his troop trains to Norway. The Jews are alone in the world. If Israel survives, it will be solely because of Jewish efforts. And Jewish resources. Yet at this moment Israel is our only reliable and unconditional ally. We can rely more on Israel than Israel can rely on us. And one has only to imagine what would have happened last summer had the Arabs and their Russian backers won the war to realize how vital the survival of Israel is to America and the West in general. I have a premonition that will not leave me; as it goes with Israel so will it go with all of us. Should Israel perish the holocaust will be upon us."
