The Golden State Valkyries defeated the Atlanta Dream 68–63 in the first Game 7 in WNBA Finals history, winning the series 4–3 and claiming the franchise’s first championship in its second season. Gabby Williams finished with 30 points (10-of-23 shooting), including a Finals-record 28 points in the second half, along with four blocks; she was named Finals MVP. Veronica Burton sealed the result with two free throws at 5.1 seconds. For Atlanta, Jordin Canada scored 18, Allisha Gray 16, and Angel Reese 8 points with 12 rebounds. Quarter scores were Atlanta 12–18–14–19 and Golden State 14–10–21–23. The decisive contrast was scoring distribution rather than total possessions. Atlanta led by as many as nine early, consistent with the perimeter volume and early surges that produced their three series wins. Golden State’s response concentrated in the third quarter, where Williams scored 15 of her 17 points at that stage and erased the deficit, then added 13 more in the fourth. Atlanta shot 33.3 percent from the field (23-of-69) and 20 percent from three (6-of-30); Golden State was more efficient at 37.5 percent overall despite making only five of 20 threes. Reese’s 12 rebounds continued the series board control that set the single-series record, yet the lower scoring output limited secondary creation compared with her higher-assist Game 6 performance. The late sequence—Atlanta’s free throws and a forced jump ball, followed by Burton’s makes—illustrates how the margin compressed to free-throw conversion and possession after the offensive runs had already shifted the lead. An expansion team reaching and winning a Game 7 in year two is unprecedented in the league’s best-of-seven era. The series featured repeated swings (Golden State took Games 1, 4, 5, and 7; Atlanta took 2, 3, and 6), with both sides limited by defensive length and low three-point conversion in the decisive contest. The outcome therefore hinged less on overall talent disparity than on whether one player’s second-half volume and the home team’s late free-throw reliability could outweigh the rebounding and early-scoring patterns Atlanta had used to force the seventh game.
