What a fantastic turnout last night to our Delegates Assembly! Thanks to all who attended.
Thank you to the decision makers @MayorOfWY , @Jones_first and Chief Superintendent Stephen Dodds @WestYorksPolice for agreeing to work with us on key campaign areas on safety and buses! – at Leeds, England
Last week a team of staff students and parents from @CoopLeeds and @DixonsUnity met with Tim Taylor and Helen Ellerton who lead on Transport Services and policy at WYCA to discuss the issue of bus fares and temporary accomodation. 1/2
They committed to working with us to find a way to link bus passes to individuals, not addresses - so families don't have to choose between educating and feeding their children. Thank you @WestYorkshireCA for working with us on this.
Yesterday we met with regional UKVI and DHSC staff alongside WYP and Migration Yorkshire. Migrant care worker leaders courageously shared powerful testimony of the need for change in system, enduring terrible hardships and exploitation. 1/3
We gained commitments from government agencies to work with us as our listening campaign progresses. We will also work together to improve support for unemployed care workers. Once again our belief in the power of diverse people working together for change is re-enforced. 2/3
Great leadership from @completewoman2
@LeedsTrinity @MigrantAction
in this work. Please encourage any migrant care worker you to participate in @LeedsTrinity research which is part of this listening.3/3 app.onlinesurveys.jisc.ac.uk…
Our leaders have been working with @WestYorksPolice around migrant social care and exploitation - together they met with Home Office staff today, establishing a working relationship to tackle some of the huge challenges facing migrant care workers. We are more powerful together.
Congratulations to the Roma Action Team at @CoopLeeds winning commitments to change from a local GP practice on work experience placements and apprenticeships and an agreement for Roma young people to deliver cultural training to surgery staff #powertothepeople
We are campaigning to redress the injustices experienced by migrant care workers - leaders and care workers met with WYP this week as they figure out steps forward.
Many thanks to Sgt Chris Cowling and DI Ricky Scott from the @WestYorksPolice Modern Slavery and Human trafficking department for coming to talk with the Action Team on the Migrant Care Workers’ campaign. #employmentlaw #HumanRightsViolations
Great to meet you today @alexsobel - we look forward to exploring how we can work together to build fairer, more affordable and timely Pathways to Citizenship through the Citizenship Network.
Another great Northern city gives birth to a Citizens Alliance - power to the people of Liverpool!
And another @CitizensUK chapter is born. #liverpoolcitizens
Packed room of 500 people @StGeorgesHallLV demonstrating the power of everyday people to make change.
Building power and negotiating for change with West Yorkshire Citizens leaders in our 2 day training...@Bradford_Citz
1/2 As we work on proposals for real change with decision makers in West Yorkshire, we are joining hands with @LancsCitizens @tynewearcitizen @GMCitizens and Liverpool Citizens to continue listening to people's experiences of using buses and their priorities for change.
Great 2 days of organising training with leaders from Leeds and Bradford. We had leaders who came on after just 3 hours of sleep following a nightshift #hungryforchange
Massive well done to @mkapree_ for stepping up and co delivering some training on action. Privileged to have such talented leaders in our alliance.
Our West Yorkshire leaders joined fellow Citizens from across the North, meeting with leaders @Transport4North, agreeing a plan of how we will work together for more reliable, affordable and equitable transport in the region.
We and @Bradford_Citz are looking to hire a double decker bus to do some buses listening around the region in October. Can anyone help us??
Many are thinking on how to respond to the recent rioting...as we reach out, listen and think about how to respond, here's some great advice for churches from the Bishop of Kirkstall @RevArun churchtimes.co.uk/articles/2…
