As Legal IT Insider (LITI) explains in its post today, October 30, 2026, practice management company Filevine announced at its LEX Summit conference that it is releasing a full-stack finance/accounting system for small- to mid-size law firms that are Filevine's principal customers. From the LITI post: "At its LEX Summit in San Diego this week, Filevine, best known as a case management platform for US litigation and personal injury firms, announced Filevine Finance, which it describes as “an AI-native full-stack ERP accounting platform” built for law. It covers the general ledger, accounts receivable and payable, trust accounting, reconciliation and financial planning, and Filevine is billing it as a standalone product. "The pitch is neatly put by Dr Cain Elliott, who rejoices in the title of chief legal futurist: 'Legal has spent the last few years obsessing over whether AI can write a brief. Meanwhile, many firms still run the business behind that brief on accounting software that doesn’t know what a matter is.'” Get access to LITI's complete post here: legaltechnology.com/filevine… #legaltechnology #legaltech @filevine @LITI_News

As a former NYC M&A lawyer myself, here's a development that I can get behind: the launch of an M&A law firm, called Dexterity Law, that aims at deals in the "$2 million to $20 million enterprise value bracket," that brings the expertise, judgment, and polish that BigLaw M&A lawyers take pride in, but that also aims to "… [r]educe cost and cycle times by leveraging AI effectively and responsibly." From the October 29, 2026 press release about Dexterity Law's launch: "October 29, 2026 - DENVER - Dexterity Law, an expert-driven, AI-empowered M&A boutique practice, proudly announces its official launch. Dexterity Law capitalizes on the scale and promise of AI while avoiding the hype and keeping legal judgment where it belongs: with the lawyers. Accomplished M&A lawyers will deliver sophisticated, affordable representation to small and middle market businesses growing through acquisitions or selling to private equity and other large buyers. "Dexterity Law is led by its founding partner Thomas Romer, a deal lawyer with more than 25 years’ experience at Greenberg Traurig, BakerHostetler, and Brownstein. He is currently vice chair of the ABA M&A Technology Subcommittee. With the formation of Dexterity Law, Romer brings these experiences to removing barriers to affordability and speed that are typical of traditional approaches. "With a business model that passes AI and tech-enabled cost efficiencies directly to clients and offers an alternative to BigLaw hourly billing rates, Dexterity Law leverages a tech stack intentionally designed to optimize efficiency in every stage of an M&A transaction, from the initial LOI and NDA, to due diligence, to negotiation and close." Yesterday, October 28, 2026, the Axios "Pro Rata" newsletter posted about a fundraising round by FluxCap, an "AI tool for litigators." Here's the blurb that the newsletter posted: "• FluxCap, an AI tool for litigators led by former DOJ antitrust officials Jonathan Kanter and Doha Mekki, raised $6.4m in seed funding from Bloomberg Beta and YC. " And below is an excerpt from the NY Times "DealBook" article to which the "Pro Rata" post linked: "Called FluxCap, the start-up makes an artificial intelligence tool for plaintiff attorneys. The product aims to speed and improve the process of evaluating potential claims, discovering and analyzing evidence, and outlining arguments — tasks that typically require an army of junior lawyers." Harvey’s fifth acquisition of 2026 offers another look at where well-funded legal AI companies are putting their money. As Artificial Lawyer (AL) reports, Harvey has bought Aida, an AI-native sales execution platform whose founders and engineering team bring experience in enterprise search and machine learning. From the AL post: “Harvey told AL that acquisition accelerates their product roadmap: ‘Agents are already capable of far more than they do today. What stops them is that they don’t know enough. The Aida team will advance Harvey’s work to help each firm build its own ontology, providing critical context that makes every agent, model, and product the organization uses more effective.’” “Aida co-founder Prahladka added: ‘We founded Aida because we believed AI could understand the context of people’s work, connect information across fragmented systems, and turn that knowledge into action. Joining Harvey gives us the opportunity to bring that vision to one of the world’s most knowledge-intensive professions at a global scale. We’re excited about what we can build together.’” Read the entire Artificial Lawyer post at this link: artificiallawyer.com/2026/10… #legaltechnology #legaltech @harvey @ArtificialLawya

Emma Legal, the pioneering M&A due diligence tech, has announced its partnership with Datasite, a company that provides what can best be described as M&A infrastructure (data room tech and more). Sounds like a great match to me. From the October 27, 2026 press release that Emma Legal and Datasite issued: "GHENT, Belgium — October 27, 2026 — Emma Legal, the AI-powered workspace purpose-built for M&A legal due diligence, today announced a strategic partnership with Datasite, the essential infrastructure for M&A. The partnership connects live Datasite data rooms directly with Emma Legal, enabling corporate law firms, in-house legal teams and investors to analyze transaction documents, identify material risks and missing information, and deliver comprehensive legal due diligence reports with greater speed, confidence and control. "For the world's most complex M&A transactions, legal teams must review extensive, rapidly changing document sets while working against demanding transaction timelines. Traditionally, transferring documents between the data room and legal review systems involves repeatedly downloading, reorganizing and uploading files. This creates unnecessary duplication, increases the risk of working with incomplete or outdated information, and introduces additional security exposure when confidential transaction documents are handled outside the data room. "The partnership addresses these challenges by connecting Emma Legal directly with Datasite's trusted transaction infrastructure. The connection preserves the data room's folder structure and access permissions while keeping Emma Legal synchronized with the current document set. Legal teams can conduct their review without repeatedly downloading, uploading or manually reorganizing documents, reducing administrative work and unnecessary copies of sensitive transaction information." As reported in a post at Artificial Lawyer (AL), Anthropic is delving even more deeply into "legal AI" with the release of so-called "Artifacts" for legal. There's also mention in the post of "a Legal Quants-style group for builders, called the Legal Ambassadors Program," which already has a waitlist. From the AL post: "After the initial launch of Claude for Legal, and as it prepares for its IPO, Anthropic is now pushing deeper into this vertical with Artifacts – essentially pre-made workflows. They’ve also started a Legal Quants-style group for builders, called the Legal Ambassadors Program, which of course has a wait list." For a sampling of Artifacts examples (both those that are original to Anthropic and those that were built by Anthropic in collaboration with law firms and other legal tech vendors), read the full AL post that's found at this link: artificiallawyer.com/2026/10… #legaltechnology #legaltech @ArtificialLawya

Legaltech News (LTN) has posted about LexisNexis updating its Lexis+ with Protégé platform for AI-driven workflows, bringing (among other things) more integrations with other LexisNexis legal products and skills for legal. From the LTN post: "LexisNexis announced an update of its artificial intelligence workflow platform Lexis+ With Protégé on Tuesday, adding new integrations and agentic AI workflows. "The update builds upon the expanded version of Lexis+ With Protégé, which LexisNexis announced in August, that includes dynamic agentic AI capabilities that go beyond predefined workflows. The expanded platform can understand a user’s intended task and bring together the necessary AI agents, what Lexis calls "skills," LexisNexis resources, and the documents and knowledge from a user’s internal repositories to complete it." Legaltech News (LTN) posts that Clio is adding regulatory monitoring to its growing legal research offering. Its acquisition of Page, founded just two years ago, will bring monitoring of legislative and regulatory activity into Vincent. From the LTN post: “Practice management provider Clio announced the acquisition of artificial intelligence-powered regulatory monitoring platform Page on Monday during the opening keynote of ClioCon 2026 in Boston. Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.” “Founded in 2024, Page conducts monitoring for government hearings, bills and regulation, among other materials, and provides analysis of the content in at least 80 jurisdictions across the U.S., U.K., Ireland, Canada and Australia for law firms, intelligence firms, nonprofit organizations and other companies.” Read all of the LTN post at this link: law.com/legaltechnews/2026/1… #legaltechnology #legaltech @goclio

Legal IT Insider (LITI) has reported on some rather significant product releases and interface changes from Clio. From the LITI post: "Legal practice management system provider Clio today (26 October) unveiled a significant expansion of its platform, including an AI-native business phone system, agentic workflows, automated time capture, and extended document management and drafting capabilities. "Perhaps the most significant underlying announcement is that Clio is bringing together its various offerings within one interface: users will now be able to access a single view of Clio Grow, Clio Manage, and Clio Work, allowing them to move from prospective client activity and intake through matter management, substantive legal work, billing, payments, and reporting." I've been beating this drum for a while now, and here's a post from Legaltech News (LTN) (that discusses the topic more completely than I have) what I've been drumming about: legal tech is binging on integrations and connections (and that's a very good thing). The post also discusses legal tech's agentic AI thing (and, when done properly, that's a good thing too). From the LTN post: "In the legal tech world, it’s all connected. Or at least it’s getting there. "After several years of growing crowded with new artificial intelligence tools, the legal tech market seems to be shifting its focus from discrete point solutions to interoperability. "The past year has seen a flood of announcements from legal tech providers introducing new integrations across platforms. Such integrations are nothing new, but they are becoming increasingly common with the rise of agentic AI and customer demand for more simplified interfaces." Episode 90 of the Legal Tech StartUp Focus podcast -- A conversation with Stephanie Curio, co-founder and CEO of Clerq. We talk with Stephanie Curcio, CEO and co-founder of Clerq (formerly NLPatent) (clerq-ip.com), about how an IP lawyer spots a real workflow pain and turns it into an AI-first patent research product. We dig into concept-based search, agentic research workflows that produce cited analysis, and the hard-earned founder lessons behind trust, selling, and rebranding. Another end-of-the-business-week legal tech roundup, and a good one too. I'm speaking, of course, of the Legaltech News (LTN) legal tech rundown for the business week ended October 23, 2026. It's a rundown replete with product updates and launches, hirings, business partnerships, as well as: (1) "AI Delegation Operating System, an AI-assisted platform for attorneys to plan and oversee work assigned to outside professionals" from Litify and (2) "'AI Governance,' a program combining legal advice and technology to help organizations oversee their use of AI" from BigLaw's Goodwin. If you're a startup founder (legal tech or otherwise) and, when asked if you're ready to raise your Series A, you have to guess, that's a good sign you're not ready. At least that's the thesis posted by Charlie O'Donnell, VC firm advisor and startup pitch guru, in his latest "This is Going To Be Big" newsletter. And as Charlie presents it, that thesis rings true. From the post: "Successful [startup leaders] know they're going to be successful because they've done that work. They're in the flow of it--and the same goes for fundraising. If you don't talk to enough other founders who have successfully raised from solid, recognizable VCs, you're not the student of the game you need to be. "You'll find yourself guessing. You're probably going to fail, and not because the idea is bad, but because the process of going from a guess to a certainty is the process of being prepared to raise. "They're the same thing." Legal tech founders have good reason to pay attention when Microsoft's Copilot for Legal brings legal AI into software their customers already use. Distribution and familiar workflows can make a powerful combination, especially when buyers start asking what an additional subscription really buys them. This Legaltech News (LTN) post explores the pressure on vendors to demonstrate value through specialized workflows, proprietary data, and more carefully tailored products. Cat Casey, president and co-founder of Intelligent AF, puts the pricing question this way: "'The layer that you, [as] the point solution, are servicing gets smaller—then it becomes, 'Is it worth X, Y or Z dollars for that incremental benefit?'" she said. 'Some of these licenses are quite expensive, and there's a lot of value for them, but if suddenly some of that value is embedded in your Microsoft 365 or your Copilot license, are you going to pay incrementally more?'" Min-Kyu Jung, co-founder and CEO of Ivo, emphasizes the need for differentiation: "'As recently as a year ago, vendors could be successful with products that were almost entirely undifferentiated from generic AI tools,' he noted. 'It’s more important than ever that vendors are providing value significantly above and beyond the underlying models themselves.'" Legaltech News (LTN) posts to report IP law firm Sterne Kessler’s partnership with Clarivate. For legal tech founders, this LTN post offers a useful example of turning law-firm experimentation into commercial products: Sterne Kessler brings workflow expertise and internal prototypes; Clarivate brings IP data, software, and the capacity to develop those prototypes at scale. From the LTN article, first quoting Clarivate president of IP Simon Webster and then quoting Sterne Kessler’s Robert Burger: "'They spend time understanding how they want to improve their practice, and then they prototype those solutions internally," Webster said of Sterne Kessler. "Going forward, that gives us not just a set of problems to solve and an indication of how they want them solved, but an actual prototype that we can then develop full-scale solutions from, with ... the level of provenance and trust and durability that the industry needs.'" "'We have our own [AI research and development] department, but we don't want to be in the software development business, so partnering with Clarivate allows us to have the best of all worlds,' Sterne Kessler chief operating officer and executive director Robert Burger said. 'Producing fiduciary-grade products is a lot, ... so being able to spin off a lot of our tools to them is the name of the game.'"
