This map shows quite clearly what the Russians had in mind in terms of a successful conquest of Ukraine: annexation of about 40% of the country and subordination of the rest. It's from a leaked presentation of May 2022, circulated by the closely Putin-linked oligarch Konstantin Malofeev, describing the absorption of southern and eastern Ukraine into Russia and the systematic redistribution of its ports and industries among Russian oligarchs. Russia seems to have intended to seize most of the industrialised areas of Ukraine, leaving the less valuable (and more Ukrainian-speaking) rural and agricultural regions under the control of a rump, landlocked Ukrainian state governed by a pro-Moscow regime. It's safe to assume that Russia would also have taken over Moldova at some point.
Actually quite curious what a 100% successful Russian invasion of Ukraine would’ve looked like; IE would they have even bothered with occupying western Ukraine

Some positive news when the world seems so bleak: The UK overwhelmingly supports Ukraine defeating the russian invasion. Even now in 2026. Twitter is not real life, it’s a cesspit. In reality, people are much better. Most people are good. Source: @Moreincommon_

FC Augsburg believes it's quite terrible to have 17 other Bundesliga clubs sitting on a bunch of the league's limited supply of points.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman believes people owning RAM is wasteful, and that it belongs in data centers instead. "From a global allocation perspective, actually, it’s quite terrible to have everyone have a bunch of the world’s limited supply of DRAM sitting in their own computer."

Well, let’s just say this is not a humanitarian act. NO! It certainly isn’t. Attacking ambulances is more than just a war crime. ELON! The drone operator is NOT some poor lad forced into combat; what you’re saying is just an excuse on your part.

A massacre in the Dnipro passenger railway station today. A guided Russian drone targeted a crowded platform, killing at least 13 people and injuring many others, as per city officials. But diesel. But Russia wants peace. But don’t you dare hit their refineries.

It is insane to me that a headline like this can exist and also the markets can run based entirely on the idea that “the strait of Hormuz is open” when it is quite obviously not
BREAKING: President Trump has reportedly given Iran until Tuesday to agree to fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face what he described as “devastating strikes,” according to Bloomberg. The ultimatum comes as Washington continues to pressure Tehran to restore commercial shipping through the strategic waterway. Similar deadlines and threats have been issued repeatedly in recent weeks without leading to military action, so it remains unclear whether this latest warning will result in a strike.

A lifetime of income tax… in just four years? Most people probably underestimate just how progressive the UK’s income tax system is. Take someone earning the UK’s median full-time salary of around £39,000. They’ll pay roughly £5,300 a year in income tax. Now compare that with someone earning £150,000. They’ll pay around £53,700. That’s more than 10x as much income tax… …despite earning less than 4x the salary. Over 4 years, the £150,000 earner will have paid approximately £215,000 in income tax. That’s roughly the same amount of income tax the median full-time worker pays across an entire working life. A median full-time worker keeps around 86p of every £1 they earn after income tax. Someone earning £150,000 keeps around 64p of every £1. Many people imagine a £150,000 salary guarantees financial freedom. In reality, many high earners are paying extraordinary amounts of tax while still facing many of the same affordability challenges as everyone else, especially if living and working in London. Whether you think that’s fair or not is a matter of opinion. But it illustrates just how dependent the UK’s income tax system is on higher earners.

"So the value of golden eggs, and the value of the goose, should be seen, not only just by egg value." I couldn't agree more. Bravo, Masayoshi Son. I'm glad somebody said this.
SoftBank’s investor presentation is one of the greatest things ever made. I’ve been thinking about it all day. These are the real slides shown in a speech where Masayoshi Son said he wouldn’t retire for at least another decade. The goose stuff is perfect. group.softbank/media/Project…

Before Brexit, there were about 300K net migrants a year, mostly from the EU. After Brexit, immigration shot up to 900K, and EU migration was negative. It’s amazing how stupid Brexit was from every possible perspective. Populism is a low IQ movement.

Historically the UK and Japan have exchanged their native plant species, cherry blossom trees being a main one, and since 2016 Japan has gifted over 7,000 cherry trees as a sign of friendship, that's why you randomly see them all over the country, this sort of thing has been going on for over a century now, a specific species of tree called the Tai-Haku actually went completely extinct in Japan for centuries, but a British ornithologist called Collingwood Ingram discovered a dying tree in someone's garden, and he was able to send cuttings over to Japan via the Tran-Siberian Express and successfully reintroduce the species back to Japan, so every Tai-Haku in Japan is descended from the cuttings of the last dying tree in existence, which just happened to be in a random garden in Sussex

UPDATE: Letters from Leo can now independently confirm that the meeting took place — and that the Vatican was so alarmed by the Pentagon’s tactics that Pope Leo XIV shelved plans to visit the United States later this year. Many in the Vatican saw the Pentagon’s reference to an Avignon papacy as a threat to use military force against the Holy See.
NEW: A stunning new report claims that the Pentagon summoned Pope Leo XIV’s top American diplomat and threatened him after the U.S.-born pontiff gave his January state-of-the-world address. Leo used the address to denounce a world ruled by “a diplomacy based on force” and “zeal for war.” thelettersfromleo.com/p/the-…
