– at Geneva, Switzerland

Today, we hosted a historic event at the Embassy of Argentina in Washington, D.C., under Argentina’s 2026 Presidency of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), reaffirming our country’s unwavering commitment to Holocaust remembrance and the fight against antisemitism.
We had the distinct honor of welcoming President Javier Milei, accompanied by Secretary General of the Presidency Karina Milei, to Argentina's home in Washington for the first time. In his remarks, President Milei pledged "zero tolerance for antisemitism," underscoring Argentina's firm commitment to preserving historical memory, defending freedom and democratic values, and standing alongside Israel and the Jewish people.
We extend our special gratitude to U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright and Ambassador Rabbi Yehuda Kaploun, U.S. Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism, for their participation and meaningful remarks, reflecting the strength of the partnership between Argentina and the United States in advancing this shared cause.
We were also honored to hear remarks from Argentina’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship Pablo Quirno; Marcelo Mindlin, Chair of Argentina’s 2026 IHRA Presidency; and Paraguay’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Rubén Ramírez Lezcano.
As Ambassador Oxenford emphasized in his opening remarks, “Argentina has established itself as one of the clearest and strongest voices internationally in the fight against antisemitism.”
In a significant diplomatic milestone, Paraguay and the Dominican Republic announced their intention to join the IHRA, reflecting Argentina’s regional leadership and marking an important step toward expanding the Alliance’s presence in Latin America.
Today's gathering reaffirmed that Holocaust remembrance must translate into concrete commitments, stronger partnerships, and collective action against antisemitism across our hemisphere.
Argentina will continue to stand firmly alongside those who defend freedom, democracy, and human dignity. In the face of antisemitism and hatred, there can be no room for silence, indifference, or neutrality.
I was honored to represent the @WorldJewishCong at an international conference marking the 10 year anniversary of the most important @TheIHRA definition on antisemitism, organized by the Government of Romania, which has shown extraordinary leadership on the issue.

At the @UN_HRC in Geneva today, 5️⃣2️⃣ states reaffirmed that fighting antisemitism is an international human rights priority. In particular, they called for stronger action in addressing the spread of antisemitism through artificial intelligence.
The countries – led by Austria @AustriaUNGeneva, Czechia @CZMissionGeneva, and Slovakia @MisiaSr - warned that AI, while offering significant opportunities for innovation, can also enable the creation and dissemination of antisemitic content, Holocaust denial and distortion, disinformation and harmful stereotypes, all at unprecedented speed and scale.
“Artificial intelligence must not become a new engine for old hatred," WJC President @lauder_ronald said.
"We cannot allow antisemitism, Holocaust distortion, and conspiracy theories to be spread faster and further simply because the technology has changed. Nor can we allow sacred terms such as genocide to be redefined by those who seek to do harm to Jews. Governments and technology companies have a responsibility to act now, before these dangers become even harder to contain."
WJC has, for years, helped to facilitate this initiative, working with diplomatic missions in Geneva to build international support and ensure that combating antisemitism is recognized as a fundamental human rights priority.
🤝 We thank Austria, Czechia, and Slovakia for their continued leadership, and every country that has joined this effort.

Engaging in the fight against antisemitism, I've come across policymakers who not fully aware of the basics of Judaism or have never visited a synagogue. That's why we openned the doors of the main synagogue of Geneva for 80 Diplomats from around the globe

When the World Jewish Congress was established in Geneva in 1936, its founders faced a world in which the Jewish people had no voice. They understood, with terrible clarity, that Jews everywhere needed to stand together, and that someone had to speak for them in the international halls of power.
That is the mission and mandate that we continue to carry forward as WJC turns 90 this month.
⚬ From our diplomacy at the United Nations, UNESCO, and the European Union;
⚬ Our programs to confront antisemitism, protect Jewish communities, and hold governments accountable for the safety and security of their Jewish citizens and institutions;
⚬ Our pioneering work to ensure Holocaust remembrance and education, coupled with the ongoing fight against Holocaust denial and distortion;
⚬ And our investment in supporting passionate young Jewish leaders.

This week marks 9️⃣0️⃣ years since the founding of the World Jewish Congress in Geneva.
On the 8th of August 1936, Jewish leaders from around the globe came together to form a body that would serve as the permanent diplomatic address, or foreign ministry, of the Jewish people on the international stage at a dire moment in history.
The institution born that day continues to endure - and with it the promise that the Jewish people will never again be voiceless or dependent on others to speak on their behalf.
