Unrealized profit is a mood. Realized profit is a fact. Treat them differently.

A strategy that wins 50% of the time has roughly an 80% chance of hitting 5 losses in a row somewhere in 100 trades. That's not the strategy breaking. That's probability. Size for the streak you'll see, not the one you hope to avoid.

Your stop goes just under the obvious low. So does everyone else's. That doesn't mean the market is hunting you. It means liquidity gathers where stops gather. Give the level some room, or accept the occasional sweep.

A stop at your exact entry isn't truly breakeven. You paid a fee to get in. You'll pay another to get out. Maybe funding too. A real breakeven stop sits slightly beyond entry to cover costs.

The dangerous version of pyramiding: Small first entry. Bigger second. Biggest at the top. Now your average entry sits near the highs, and one normal pullback turns the whole trade red. Build the base big. The top small.

Same 1% risk. BTC with an ATR of 2% 🆚 An alt with an ATR of 8% With a 1.5× ATR stop: BTC stop 3% → position ≈ 33% of account. Alt stop 12% → position ≈ 8% of account. Volatility sets the size. Not conviction.

If normal price noise can hit your stop, it's not a stop. It's an exit fee. A stop should sit beyond the wiggle, not inside it.

"I made $400 this week" says nothing on its own. Was that +0.5R or +8R? Tracking results in R shows whether your edge is improving, even when your size changes. Dollars measure the account. R measures the trader.

You don't need to catch the top. You don't need to catch the bottom. The middle can be enough. Trying to capture every last percentage point turns good decisions into emotional ones surprisingly quickly.
