At exactly this time on November 24, 1963 (also a Sunday), Dr. Tom Shires and his residents begin the trauma laparotomy on Lee Harvey Oswald.
Oswald was found to have the SMA sheared off the aorta, along with R kidney and IVC injuries. He also got a resuscitative thoracotomy.

Yup. The more obese the more you need to be completely perpendicular to the rib cage at point of entry.

I’ve never had the actual tube go into the abdomen, but I’ve had the first pass of the clamp go there, and detected it. I’ve also seen <very famous surgeon> do the same thing.
As you might imagine, it tends to happen in obese patients, often those with elevated HOB.
Correct. Literature supports 14 Fr tubes for HTX if HDS, also.

Pigtail if PTX and HDS. If blood or hemodynamic instability they’re getting a knife and a 28Fr chest tube.
The complication of putting a chest tube in the abdomen is largely avoidable.

Thank you for the outpouring of support. It's so sad that in 2023, USA, these injustices are still happening. How can we make this world better for our daughters? It is time to speak up!"
