Leaves and seed pods on the Japanese Hornbeam #tree at Malling Deanery Arboretum, #Lewes .The folding mechanism of the leaves is copied to design solar panel arrays for space shuttles. Leaves in bud and solar panels during launch have to pack down tightly - biomimicry!
