When it comes to surgical stapling, "good enough" is simply not good enough because surgeons and their patients deserve better than bundled compromises. Achieving excellent hemostasis along the entire staple line remains the gold standard every surgeon strives for. That standard is why we are proud to highlight the latest prospective clinical study published in the Journal of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. In a prospective clinical trial, 50 consecutive primary sleeve gastrectomies performed with the AEON™ Powered Stapling System, evaluators noted excellent staple-line hemostasis, with a score of 1.04 on a 1 to 5 scale. Evaluated 10 seconds post-firing without any buttress reinforcement material, this near-perfect hemostasis state resulted in zero bleeding interventions, zero postoperative leaks, and zero transfusions. Outcomes like this do not happen by chance. At Lexington Medical, Inc., we listen to clinicians and strive to always keep improving. We are proud of our highly differentiated and large body of peer-reviewed clinical results. With 100% focus on surgical stapling – we are obsessed with making the right stapler for each critical application. Zenker’s diverticulum is a good reminder that in surgery, a few millimeters of geometry can influence how an instrument interacts with the anatomy. A Zenker’s diverticulum (ZD) forms from a herniation of the esophagus through a weakness in the hypopharyngeal wall, resulting in potential swallowing problems and aspiration. A common treatment consists of dividing the common wall between the esophagus and the ZD, creating a large passage and simultaneously dividing the cricopharyngeus. This is typically done trans-orally using a linear cutting stapler, and many surgeons modify the stapler by removing the distal portion of the anvil to minimize the chances of perforation and allow for more complete division of the septum. Modifying a stapler raises significant concerns for stapler performance and potential liability in the case of a malfunction. The Lexington Medical AEON stapler with its proprietary Short Tip reload eliminates the need to modify the stapler. The Short Tip has 19% less surface area than a standard tip, allowing the stapler to sit right at the base of the diverticulum. This facilitates complete division of the septum without fear of perforation. Because good enough is not acceptable. Surgeons deserve better than bundled compromises. #ENT #Laryngology #HeadAndNeckSurgery #ThoracicSurgery #ZenkersDiverticulum #SurgicalStapling #AEON

Can a surgical stapler affect outcomes in cancer patients? It sounds like a leap to say so, but the evidence behind RIOT (Return to Intended Oncologic Treatment) suggests the surgery itself is a key factor in oncologic outcomes, not just in terms of successful resection of the neoplasm, but also in relation to complications and recovery. Lexington Medical is pleased to share a new clinical perspectives piece authored by Dr. Shaun McKenzie MD, FACS (Texas Oncology) and Dennis Begos MD, FACS, examining the evidence linking surgical quality to RIOT rates. Key takeaways for oncologic surgeons:  1. Postoperative complications reduce RIOT rates by 50% or more  2. Operative time beyond 2 hours is independently associated with rising complication rates  3. MIS approaches, ERAS adherence, and technology selection are all modifiable variables  Your choice of stapler can play a pivotal role in avoiding complications such as bleeding, fistula, and air leak, all of which prolong recovery and delay oncologic therapy. The AEON Surgical Stapler has a growing body of clinical evidence showing its effectiveness: there are now 9 peer-reviewed publications evaluating the AEON, many of which show superior performance when compared to legacy devices. These papers reflect a number of surgical specialties: Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB), Thoracic, and Bariatric, showing AEON’s versatility. Two papers have been published in the last few months, both involving thoracic surgery. What is remarkable is that they compare the manual AEON stapler to a powered stapler. Powered staplers are widely regarded as providing superior results versus manual staplers, but these studies turn that conventional wisdom on its head. (The studies were done prior to the availability of the AEON Powered Stapler, which should provide even better performance.) Have a look at our latest blog which describes these studies, one from University Hospital Basel in LVRS patients, the other from the Mayo Clinic looking at wedge resections. lexington-med.com/2026/06/bl… If you are a thoracic surgeon or involved in stapler procurement, this should be the first thing you read today. #ThoracicSurgery #SurgicalStapling #AEON #LexingtonMedical #ClinicalEvidence

In complex cases, the details matter. Here’s how one surgeon put it. We spend a lot of time with surgeons in the OR and use that input to shape how we design and improve our devices.
