“How much? $100 BILLION, with a B?!”
That’s @drbennettTX's lifetime cost estimate for Texas’ 765 kV plan.
What do households get for their share? Where’s the added reliable generation?
Why not build power near the Permian’s abundant fuel?
Watch his explanation. 👇

Lawmakers Asked “Where’s the $100 Billion Number From?” Here’s the Answer 💰
Brent explains why this affects every Texan. Texas spreads transmission costs across the whole system these lines are being built in West Texas, everyone in the ERCOT region pays for them
@VOGTforEnergy
ERCOT's rising electricity prices were never about the cost of making power. They're about the cost of reliably getting it to your outlet, and households are paying the most for it.

The Texas Public Policy Foundation's Life:Powered program is hailing the EPA's final repeal of the Biden admin's Clean Power Plan 2.0, which would have imposed strict emissions standards on fossil fuel-fired power plants as well as on new and existing natural gas units. Under the plan, Americans were projected to pay billions more in electricity costs while also eliminating the baseload power the electricity grid depends on. legalnewsline.com/southeast-…
Three years ago, we laid out a path to unwind federal policies that were pushing Americans toward electric vehicles regardless of consumer demand.
Another major piece of that agenda is now in place: the Trump administration is close to finalizing its rollback of the Biden-era CAFE standards.
Combined with the repeal of federal vehicle GHG regulations, the end of federal EV subsidies, and actions challenging California’s separate vehicle mandates, President Trump's promise to "end the EV mandates" is very close to being realized.
Our research shows that these actions will save consumers tens of billions of dollar per year by removing the subsidies and hidden fees that were amounting to more than $50k per EV sold.

President Trump says he has approved new fuel economy standards aimed at rolling back Biden-era rules that his administration has characterized as an EV mandate.
Trump says the new standards will give automakers more flexibility and lower vehicle prices, arguing Americans were being pushed toward cars they didn't want.
The president says the shift comes alongside $100 billion in planned investment in American auto manufacturing, declaring, "The Plants are coming back, and Jobs are returning."

Texas electricity bills are rising, but cheap wholesale power isn’t the whole story.
Transmission and distribution now make up nearly a third of the average ERCOT residential bill—and costs are still climbing.
Here’s what’s driving the squeeze:

Lawmakers at the Aug 19 hearing asked more than once: where did the $100 billion figure come from?
Dr. Brent Bennett calculated it. He explains how $33B in construction becomes a $100B bill, and why the lines still won't fix reliability.

Why have Texas residential electricity prices risen 72% since 2003—outpacing inflation—while commercial and industrial rates barely budged?

Retail residential electricity prices in ERCOT rose 72% since 2003—outpacing inflation and price increases for other Texas customers. Meanwhile, commercial and industrial prices barely budged. Why are households bearing the brunt?

A coalition of Texas oil & gas producers and landowners joined us in urging the @PUCTX to abate the 765-kV CCN proceedings and allow the Legislature to fully evaluate both the process and whether the current plan is the right solution for Texas.
CenterPoint commissioned a study to justify $33 billion in 765-kV STEP transmission lines across Texas.
Their own modeling shows the lines would add less than 1% to grid capacity while making winter reliability worse.
Here's what the numbers say. 🧵
Even with STEP fully built, Texas winter reserve margins fall to -1.1% by 2030. A realistic 1-in-10-year storm still means 72+ hours of outages and $11.2 billion in costs.
$33 billion does not buy Texas out of that risk.
