Today in 1803.. Gerald Griffin was born. Gerald was an Irish novelist, poet and playwright. His novel The Collegians was the basis of Dion Boucicault's play The Colleen Bawn. Gerald Griffin Street in Limerick City is named after him. #Limerick #OTD

Hi @DanielButlerFG, I’m surprised to see you sitting on the O’Connell monument in its disgraceful condition, despite repeated requests by @RHODLIMERICK & others for it to be cleaned & maintained. If this wasn’t remedied during the your Council term, what hope for a mayoral term?
Daniel O’Connell has found himself in an inglorious situation. Once a proud feature in the Georgian landscape, the monument is now surrounded by strange growths in the stagnant water in which he stands. An insult to the emancipator and another public realm disaster in #Limerick

This is normal in spain. Teams of workers wash down the entire city every night. This whole street in Limerick smells heavily of birdshit
Evidence that streets need a consistent cleaning programme (ideally power hosed), not a run through with a street sweeper.
