The @Bengals are on track for their largest net differential between sacks allowed and defensive sacks in franchise history since sacks began being formally being tracked in 1982. #NFL #bengals Source: NFL.com team stats

Tired of getting picked apart last week, the Titans suddenly dialed up a bunch of blitzes in the fourth quarter/overtime against the Bengals. Big mistake. This year, the Bengals have the most passing yards per game against fourth quarter blitzes and rank fourth in EPA/play. Burrow is 17-for-25 (68%, also there were two drops and two blatantly missed DPIs) for 262 yards (10.5 yards per attempt) against blitzes in the fourth quarter with just one sack (in garbage time against the Texans) and four touchdowns. Last year, Burrow was 10-for-15 for 94 yards against fourth quarter blitzes with two touchdowns. Joe Flacco also had five explosive plays against fourth quarter blitzes. The games where the Bengals really got blitzed in the fourth quarter were home vs. PIT and at BUF, which were great days for the offense. The Chargers, Steelers (at home), Cowboys and Broncos tried the same thing in 2024. The Bengals had no problems scoring in those games. Against the Broncos, Burrow was eight for 10 with five first downs against the blitz in the fourth quarter/overtime. In 2023, the Cardinals tried and failed blitzing Burrow late in the game. In 2022, Burrow was 21 for 30 (70%) against fourth quarter blitzes with huge plays late against the Dolphins, Saints (the Ja’Marr Chase TD), Steelers on the road (three 15+ yard completions and also a touchdown) and Chiefs (the game winning TD).

Cam Ward set a career high with 7 1st downs off of play action. The Bengals LB/S group was horrific on some of them (2k yards allowed on PA since '25), but he was in a groove in that game. Some anticipation throws and a career-high 41 rushing yards. A sprinkling of everything.

The Bengals are not the least aggressive team (that is the Broncos), but they are the most suboptimal team. Tough look when combined with low aggression and the talent on offense they have.
Using ESPN's 4th down decision model and data, which teams are the most aggressive and make the most optimal decisions. The Ben Johnson Bears! Aggressive = how often they go for it on 4th down when model says go Optimal = how many 4th down decision match the higher-WP option

This play has been posted a billion times but I love Burrow manipulating the backside safety with his eyes to widen this, and that Burrow-Ja'Marr chemistry plays out beautifully on the scramble drill

A subtle thing happening in Burrow's season is he's taking not only less sacks than ever, but he's taking fewer "bad" sacks His EPA/sack this year is -1.53, better than any other year besides 2025's partial season Before Week 8, it was -1.38, which would be a career best. The 4th down sack this week was a -3.5 EPA sack, the 2nd worst he's taken all year by EPA's standards

I don’t know how you watch the tape and think the #Bengals should be trying to trade for anything other than back seven help. Their fatal flaws as a contender are clear as day. Far too much inconsistency and depth issues back there.
