At Generation Jihad, my colleague @AhmadA_Sharawi and I discuss Syria's jihadist president, Ahmad al Sharaa. We believe he is the most dangerous and effective jihadi leader we've encountered, far more so than Osama bin Laden.

The July 26-27 massacre of 41 Congolese civilians in a church in Komanda by ISCAP (ADF) fighters is making some headlines, but some misinformation is circulating and most attention is now paid to the M23 war. So here’s a (long) thread on the context and what we know so far:

This "group" claims to have existed for ~50 days & in all of that time, it's briefly fired a gun in earshot of IDF troops -- once.
It's an online bogeyman, little if anything more. #Syria

Very expert filleting and analysis by @caleb_weiss7 of the @UN Security Council Monitoring Team report on #ISIS and #alQaeda published yesterday. Look out for his discussion with @billroggio and me on the Generation Jihad podcast due out later today.

New UN report: “Taliban maintained a permissive environment allowing Al-Qaeda to consolidate, w/ presence of safe houses & training camps scattered across Afghanistan.” Low-profile AQ members protected by Taliban intel in Kabul & senior AQ leaders protected in rural Afghanistan.

1. The new UN report on the global activities of IS and AQ is out, so here is a big thread on what stood out the most to me. First, we have "growing confidence" that Mumin is indeed Abu Hafs, IS' Caliph. Though some member states continue to disagree.

For years, I have closely observed Hamas and other Palestinian terrorist groups, which had led me to a significant conclusion that I feel compelled to share.
Hamas' most potent weapon is not its tunnels, arms, manpower or its use of human shields. It has mastered the art of deceiving, cheating, and manipulating to achieve its objectives.
What I have observed is disturbing: Hamas has skillfully convinced Westerners and the international community that acts of terrorism are a legitimate means of self-defense, all while portraying Israel as the aggressor. This calculated tactic has led many to perceive Hamas as a victim rather than the perpetrator of violence.
Furthermore, my work (look at my extensive timeline) has uncovered instances where members of Hamas' self-proclaimed "political wing" have actively participated in or supported acts of terrorism. This also extends to Hamas government employees, members of NGOs, journalists, police, and ordinary civilians.
For instance, earlier today, I identified with a high degree or certainty that a judge in Hamas' military court actively participated in carrying out attacks for Hamas during the war.
My findings over the years have led me to believe that Hamas is, in reality, a farce. Hamas has unequivocally demonstrated that achieving peace with Israel through negotiations is nothing more than a ruse.
Instead, the Islamist organization is at best merely engaged in lulls in violence to rearm and regroup, which is what is unfolding at present.
Hamas' ultimate objective is to persist in carrying out acts of terrorism until it has defeated Israel. The devastating terrorist attacks on October 7th have demonstrated that Hamas can operate with impunity as long as it continues to deceive and manipulate Western nations, the international community, and the Palestinian population in Gaza.
If the world wants to see peace in the region, it must treat Hamas for what it is : A terrorist organization.

Four different terrorist organizations participated in the chaotic transfer of Arbel Yehud today.
1. Hamas
2. Palestinian Islamic Jihad
3. The Popular Resistance Committees
4. The Palestinian Mujahideen Movement
